Title: How You Doing? 2009
Post by: justfreaky on November 03, 2008, 01:35:07 pm
Hi everyone,
Let everyone know how things are coming along during the down time (rebuilding, new cars, etc...) for the 2009 Season.
You know we all love to see pics!  ;)      ;D ;D ;D
Don't forget to post any parts, or cars, you may have for sale , in the appropriate section.

 Thanks!

 Best of Luck!

I still have a long way to go before my car will be put together.
I started buying  my racing gear. Got some Simpson nomex undies, and a pair of HDM double layer gloves.
Just so I don't get a bunch of ribbing about the underwear......... YES!........... They are NEW!!!   :D
(Those of you that are newer members might want a good laugh by reading the old thread on the subject of underwear)
I think that these will go nicely with my double layer suit.

I hope to get the necessary welding done this winter, so that I can start bolting on all the parts. I'm giving Jeff's rear clip some serious thought. Would save me a lot of time.
I'll likely still need an engine; But have one lined up. Just need to come up with the money for it.

 I'm looking forward to 2009!

It looks like me engine is done, so at the very least I will be able to start my car and make noise in 2009.   :)

Well it must be the off season cause I am back to reading the forum :-).  I actually sold my chamionship winning car and bought a gently used 40 coupe from Indiana.  I went down 4 weeks ago and picked it up.  I have stripped the car down to chassis and painted the chassis red.  Now it is time to put it back together.  I am glad I got a better start on the off season this year.  Last year putting the car back together a week before race season was too much.

Always good to see you on the site RB.  ;)

Now, give us all some pics of that '40 coupe.  ;D

Please!

Best of Luck,

Steve

Here is the car when we picked it up
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009

and here it is when we took it out for practice.  It was 2/10's of a second a lap faster than the old car.

Post by: Racinjj on November 12, 2008, 12:28:40 pm
Thats great to hear that the new car is faster, and looks sharp.  Any ideas as to why it was faster?

Those round top coupes are very lite.  I and too tall for them or I would buy one.  I raced with a kid that was about 100 lbs and he had a round top coupe....thats cheeting  :)

Car looks good!!!!

Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009
Post by: RickyBobby on November 12, 2008, 02:54:13 pm
Well the old car was 1127 and this one is 1111 so it is lighter.  Also the old car had a 1200 with about 80-90 races on it so it was pretty tired.  This car has a Hank Scott 1200 with 5 races on it.

Hey RB,
I like the new car!  :)
As for the 2/10's.................................................
Now that you've been married for awhile, That should definately speed you up.
Just ducking that frying pan she was swingin' at your head should have gained you a good 1/2 second!

 Best of Luck!

When a chassis is replaced through 600 can you change to a different body style?  Just wondering if that is an option for people wanting to try something different out.

Good luck with the new car.  Sounds like it should be pretty fast.
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009
Post by: RickyBobby on November 13, 2008, 01:04:41 pm
you can change body styles even without changing the chassis unless you want to go coupe to sedan.  Mine is a 40 ford coupe but front end parts are harder to find so what some guys do is convert them to a 37.  The rule book stats you have to change the whole front end though.
A quick call to 600 would answer the coupe to sedan part.

Yes with no questions asked. I swiched fram a 37 to 34 with no probs.  For that matter have you ever been asked for your title. I'm guessing that you could not have one and never get caught. I'm not saying that its right but I have never been asked anything even at Nats.
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009
Post by: JGRacing on November 13, 2008, 05:34:33 pm
I filled out the paperwork with the dealer I bought the car from, but of course it was not sent to 600.  Glad I rembered to follow up on it.  600 is getting it taken care of and I should have a title soon.  The title deal is a good idea, but with the number of cars out there it is sort of like herding cats.

Well for 09, I just stripped the car down to the frame and it is heading south to RPM / Jordan for some work on Wednesday.  Then rebuild it with a new hardware, wiring, and a Jordan housing.  The car will look the same....

Well iv picked up my loan car for next year. Cant do much to it except clean it as its going on a stand for a motorshow beginning of Jan.

Ended up with a 37 Chevy coupe and now after a year spannering for my Dad hopefully I can put what iv learnt into the track.

Got a test day next weekend so i get to see where the car is at! Other than that give it a strip down and replace any worn parts and race it as hard as i can!

I got both of my cars stripped to the bare frame and sandblasted.  I have replaced the front and rear clips on both cars and put some new geometry into the front and looking forward to trying that out.  The cars should be getting powder coated this week so that i can start assembly net week.  I still have a lot of body work to do but most of the fenders are done.  I hope to get the body painted shortly after Thanksgiving.
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009
Post by: MegaMang on November 19, 2008, 06:30:27 pm
I haven't done a darn thing as yet.  Brought the car home, left it in the trailer so I could get some of those summer projects completed before the snow flew.  Of course if I hadn't been racing all summer, I wouldn't have such a long list of projects left to finish...

I'm hoping to get the car into the garage next month.  Once it's in there, I'll do a complete strip down.  I want to send in the motor to 600 for a rebuild. (sealed 1250)  I also need to do some welding.  The upper rear link lollipop has been a nasty piece of work.  The pipe it's welded to is finished.  Way too many welds in the same place.  I'm cutting that pipe out and welding in a brand new pipe with a new lollipop and gussets.  While I'm at it I'll double shear it and the axle.  So it's a complete tear down and rebuild.  While it's apart, I'll sand blast and paint the chassis, bump out the wrinkle in all sheet metal, and repaint.

I actually enjoy bumping out dents and wrinkles.  Makes me happy when I can take a mangled piece of sheet metal and make it look new.  All it takes is a little patience, ear plugs, some bumping dollies, and a couple of bumping hammers.

I need new shocks, new radius rods, new heims, new springs, new ....  OK.  Lots of money, and a little time.

I'm hoping to figure out where all the extra weight is.  If I can find some spare change around I'd like to replace the body and front fenders.  When I changed the rear fenders last year I shave about 7.5 lbs off the car.  Can't wait to see how much I can shave this year!

While I'm at it, I'll try to shave another 10 or 15 lbs off myself!   ;D

Here is a picture of the "Cop Car" getting one of my new front clips (also has a new rear) on my surface plate.  When I got this car it was painted like an old police car so I call it the Cop Car.  It sat outside for a long time was in pretty rough shape but i am getting it looking pretty good.  I think I will use this frame for my primary car since its a 4 bar and looks a lot safer than my 2 bar.

Here is my mess in my garage, 3 cars in pieces.  The car on the lift is Ethans new ride which was going to be my second car.  I decided to sell because I am going to be moving and need some cash and have too much stuff.

That's a cool little lift.  Did you make that or buy it?

I finally have an engine.  Hope to get it installed in the near future so I can at least make some noise.

The lift is an industrial lift that I got free from a manufacturing plant and the hydraulic pump my Dad had laying around.

Hope to get the carbs off the car before the end of the month and sent off to get redone.  Just gotta find someone to come over and take them off the car while I'm healling.  ;D :D

Then its time to get a transponder and get it mounted, order up a neck restraint, order a muffler, and get the braided fuel line done.  And to think the season is only 4 months away.   :o

This was sent to me by Bill (Wlmckee)

Sorry been away from the net, had some unexpected surgery, just now  things are getting back to normal. Ran both boys last weekend on the road course at Rockingham. Did not expect anything miraculous from my 12 year old who started racin a bando last Summer, he brought it home in 1 piece so that was good. My 14 year old never raced in a bando or on a road course, finished 2nd on saturday and won on Sunday, he adapts quickly to anything we put him in.  Our plans for 09 are, my youngest will continue in the bando, at Rockingham, concord, and maybe Lowes, and my oldest will be driving for andy hillenburg in A legends, @ Lowes, some allison legacy, and a limited street stock at Caraway Speedway. He will be splitting the SS with Ashley Hillenburg, Andy's 16 year old. post a press release from Fast Track. Here is a link to the press release, http://www.fasttrackracing.com/RunScript.asp?page=60&Article_ID=50&AR=AR&ap=NewsArticleDetail.asp&p=ASP\~Pg60.asp

Bill,

I hope everything is good with you.

Congratulations to both your boys!
I wish them the best for 2009.
Keep us posted!

Got my body parts up to the painter yesterday, and tonight I saw a picture of a race car I liked and have decided to change the paint scheme so need to give him a call tomorrow.   Otherwise I haven't done much to the car but will have to get after it soon.   At least I got a new idea BEFORE the paint has been sprayed.  :)

The engine actually started up over the weekend and sounds great (and no smoke).  Hope to get the fire bottle lines intalled tonight and get it one the ground so I can get the setup done.  Now I just need to get something installed to tell me what the engine temp is.  The end of the sending unit for the light snapped off sometime during it being pulled, rebuilt, and transported back to me, and the oil temp sending unit does not seem to be working.  When I was running it over to weekend, I was using my temp gun to get some idea of when it was hot.  My arms are not long enough to do that during a race.   :)

I had a great day.  I went up to pick up my body work from the painter and I think it is going to look super once it gets some decals on it.   And the best part is I got a HUGE discount (i.e. FREE) to put their name on the car as a sponsor so I'm smiling.   :) :D ;D : 8) :o :o :o :o.  It will be a while before I get the car together but I will post a picture when it looks like a car again.

This was sent to me by KnucleBuster:

"Just wanted to let you know I finally got out on the track.  We had a test and tune night and took the car.  They let me get out there by myself a couple of times to get the feel of the car and the track.  Everything went well.  Car felt good.  Pushed a little, but overall set up was comfortable for me for now.  Weather permitting I'll continue to go on thusdays nights to do some laps.  I have no desire to push myself as far as racing at this point.

Our track had thier first race this past saturday night with 13 Legends cars competing.  Ive met alot of the guys, they all encourged to race but Im not ready personally.  I want more seat time.  I may get out on the track with a couple of cars this thursday and get in the back and follow."

 WAY TO GO KB!!!

Best of Luck!

I was doing good getting ready for the upcoming season but I just found some trouble. The new front clip on my car with only one race on it is bent :(. This sets me back a couple of weeks now having to change the clip again. I may need to start the season in my backup car that I was hoping to not have to use.

Geoff,

Sorry to hear about the bent clip. On the upside; You found it before you got out on the track. Nothing worse than an ill handling car!
You are fortunate to have the back up car. And, a nice shop to work in. I hope that you get the car fixed soon!

Best of Luck,

Steve

I was lucky to catch it. I knew that the horns were bent a little but on further inspection the rails are bent behind the shock towers. I only noticed because I have the car stripped waiting to be sandblasted and painted. I think that the clip that was put on was built with the wrong tubing. It was not a 600 clip but built by one of our local racers who is known for some shady stuff. I told him that I wanted it legal. It never had much of an impact for the damage that was done. It will be clipped again and with a different clip supplier.

This in from Mike (MegaMang)

I've been busy the last couple of weeks working on my car.  Stripped it right down to a bare chassis.  Needed to do some welding on it.  Had to replace the pipe that the upper link is welded to.  Snapped it 3 or 4 times last year.  Turned it into a double shear connection while I was at it.

Also cut the horns off my front end, and fabricated two new horns.  Now I have to straighten out the shock towers.  I really needed a new front clip, but didn't have the money for it.

I sent my rear end down south with a buddy to get straightened.  He took one look at it and declared it junk.  He's sending it in for the core and building me a new one.  It'll be double sheared as well.

The engine is down at 600 racing right now being rebuild as well.

I've stripped the whole chassis of paint as well.  I want to paint the chassis the same color as the car and this will help me make sure it bonds nicely.  Last winter I roughed up the paint and sprayed the roll cage, but it came off pretty easily.

I've got all the tin work out and will sand and paint it as well, after a little bumping to straighten out the ugly bits.

Bought new rims.  Went with chrome Arrows.  Costs a bit much for the chromed arrows, but the chrome really suits my paint job from last year.  This will save me about 8 lbs.  On my car, that's a drop in the bucket, but added to the 5.5 lbs I saved by removing the gauges, it helps.  Gotta figure out where all the rest of the weight is.  Hoping to have the car weigh at least 20 lbs lighter than last year.  (was 1167 lbs.)

Talk to you later,

Mike

I just want it to be Spring! Snow Sunday, rained Monday and Tuesday, snowing now...not that that is a good excuse for not working on the car...just need some motivation, still can't shake the winter blah's. Just a chassis and steering/suspension hanging there, looking at me with puppy-dog eyes every time I walk by it to go to work...

I actually made it onto a track with my car.   :)  I was starting to think that it would never happen.  The track I went to is Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL and it is a 3/8 mile high banked dirt track.  I got in two runs and it handled pretty good.  Not a whole lot of bite, but I was not expecting much on a dry slick track with these hard tires.  They put me on the track by myself because they thought that I would be slower than anything else practicing so I got it all to myself.  I had times in line with what the sportsman cars had, so I was pretty happy.  Too bad they do not run legends cars at Tri-City.  It was purchased a few years ago and the new owners put a lot of money into improving it.  It was a huge change from when I raced street stocks out there 10 years ago.

Last Monday we got about 15 inches of snow with possibly a couple more coming this weekend, but hoping it goes South of us.  We are less than 2 inches from an all time season snowfall record.  With all the snow and a pretty cool spring so far, our track is full of snow.  I figure our racing season will get started late which is kind of depressing.  Warmer weather is forecasted, but it will take a long time to melt it all and dry out the tracks.  I have my car pretty much ready to go other than setup.  The new paint looks good, if I do say so myself.

Hello all, At the Cleveland Autorama we talked to tons of people and handed out a few hundred schedules.  I also took best in class:).  Photos can be viewed at www.northernohiolegends.com

Also we have test and tune the last 2 Saturdays, but I have not been able to go.  We start the season next week at Bartberton and again I will be helping not driving.  I hope to race at Lorain County speedway on the 18th.  Then I maybe side lined again for a few weeks as we are moving.  The sale of my home should...:) close in the next few days.  It si not the best time of the year, but after 20 months on the market i guess I cant complain.

Good luck to all that are starting and that will be starting race seasons lets all have a safe year..

This just in from Knuclebuster:

"I went to the track last night and "drove it like I stole it"!!!  Im have so much fun, it shouldn't be legal, LOL.  The set up that Jeff gave me is really working for my car. I'm able to run the car so hard that Im getting on the rev limiter about 3/4 way down the stretch just before letting out for the turn.  Ive got a couple of other rookies that were running with me last night and I either lapped them or left them.  I did get out there with a more experienced kid that was working on his setup(his car was pushing in the turns) and I didn't have any problems staying on his bumper, but I didn't try to make a pass.  Anyway, its all good on my street! "

Congratulations KB!     Keep up the good work!!!
You will get out there and race when you feel you are ready.
I'm glad Jeff's' info helped. Told you he was the guy to ask!  ;)

Get ready to Go For It!!!

Hey Steve
I didnt know you were going to share that with everyone. ;)  But since you did, I owe most everything Ive learned about my car to this forum.  You guys have been more help than anyone here locally.  It sure has been nice to bounce questions off you guys and get some honest answers.  Ive found that the more seat time I get in my car the better qualified questions I have to bring to this forum.  I cant say enough times how much everyones post have helped me!!  At this point, I have a car that is running fast and sticking in the turns.  Im working on getting me a lap timer so I can tell how Im improving.  There is no doubt that Im improving either.  I feel it and others at the track have told me that Im getting faster.  Just not ready to get out and mix it up with 14 other cars on Saturday night, yet.

Again, thanks to everyone for posting their questions and the answers that they posted to my questions.  For rookies like me, the info here can really make a big difference.  Take care.  Happy Easter!

Well I did not plan on racing the season opener on April 11, but I was able to make it.  Now the car was not set up I had no idea what the cross was or the front end numbers.  I had the car down to the frame and sent to Jordan over the off season.  It was the first time the car was running for more than 5 minutes and the first time it turned a wheel under power.  As for the track, Barberton Speedway paved oval, was very cold and bad.  In the hot laps my car was all over the place.  After putting some toe in it, it had none! the car got better, but the track was so bad, 1 grove.  The track was putting down speedy dry in turns 3 and 4 2nd grove to get he water coming up through the track.  So, if you got into it you where along for the ride until the ice cold tires found the track. I think it was about 38 degrees at the time of the main!!@%#%. I know in August I will wish it was cooler, but wow it was COLD.

I just rode around and out of 17 got 13.  Next week the car will be scaled and set up for the next race at Lorain, this was what I was planning on being my 1st race.

So, I was able to shake down the car and got my pit pass back and then some.  Loaded it up....cheap Saturday night.

I finally ran a race with my car and finished 9th out of 15 at Springfield, MO.  The track was bumpy, dry slick, and then had oil down during the feature, so I am happy that I finished with the car in one piece (except for my front bumper that I tore off exiting the track >:().  The engine ran great, I think I am close on the setup, but was just having trouble getting a feel for how to push the car with the track conditions.  Looking forward to getting out there again in a few weeks.

Also, I have to mention that the Missouri Legends guys were great.  Everyone was very helpful, friendly, and raced really clean.

I had my first race weekend of the season, Grant and I traveled to Davenport, IA Friday and Jackson County Speedway Saturday.  Friday I started last in my heat and was leading coming out of turn 2 and won by a straight away.  In the feature I started 8th and quickly moved to 3rd by lap two but spun on my own on lap three in front of the pack and was t-boned hard by two cars.  It was a pretty hard hit as I was seeing stars but I was fine.  I came away with a broken spindle, nerf bar and supports and running board.  Saturday morning was spent fixing the car which came together pretty well although my door is banged up a bit and my new fenders are broken and patched back together.  I also found that my door bars are bent in a little and my frame and drive shaft tunnel were pushed in a little.  All in all not bad compared to the guy that hit me, his car was in really bad shape.

Saturday in Maquoketa, IA at Jackson County Speedway things started much the same as I won my heat race by a lot and the car was handling great again.  I stated 9th in the feature and worked my way into the lead on lap 4 after passing Grant who had a good run going.  I led the rest of the race with Masters National champ Eric Barth close behind and even getting along side once before I pulled a couple car lengths on him by the checkered flag.  A very good end to a weekend that started off a little shaky, I cant wait to get racing close to home.

I got in car footage from the race that I will be posting on Youtube in the next day.

Jim, If I would have had 10 of those cameras I would have sold them all, everyone wanted one after watching the race on my laptop right after the feature.

First race of the yr was this past sunday in Minot ND.  Finished 3rd in the feature and was the first semi-pro to finish so I got a 100point win also!!!!  This is my best finish since starting in the legends!!  ;D :o :)
Hopfully this season keeps rolling along with great finishes.

Keep it up Joe.  Great finish!

I kind of sucked.  Pretty much only finished in front of the rookies, but nobody tore up their cars and after a quick wash job I'm ready to go for Friday night.

Thanks guys.  The frame isnt bad enough to fix now, its not the main frame rail that’s bent its the tube that the fuel line runs through.  I am still working on my video editing, I have been so busy I havent had a chance to get it chopped up.

Got this message from DanH on the racing over in England:

"Hey Steve, been really busy lately with work, college and racing. (I'm doing college work now). Just had my fourth meeting this past Monday and things are going very well.
We run a graded roof system over here so the faster drivers start at the back and the not so fast at the front.
I had completed my first 3 rookie meetings off the back of the pack and now it was time for some proper racing.

Heat 1
I started outside row 2 and moved past the guy inside me (which was my dad) off the start, within two laps I had passed the 2nd place car and went after the leader but there were faster cars coming quickly and 3 passed me and I caught the initial leader and passed him getting a finish of 4th.

Heat2
Started inside second row and had a car I knew I could pass in front of me. 1st lap coming out of bend 2 there was some oil down that had not been cleared up properly and upon lining the car up in front and getting a run through the bend got loose on the oil and spun putting me at the back. Very annoyed I recovered to 11th from stone last.

The final started 11th and was 11th all the way through and on a restart got real sideways and pulled off when i thought i had a flat tyre when it was infact oil!

So ok day really learn lots just need to get my own car sorted for next season and i will be fighting for the title!"

This from the VMS Motorsports stable:

Opening Night for the Kart

VMS Motorsports kart pilot Myka Meyer brought her new Merlin chassis out for the first points race on Sunday, April 19th. Myka finished a career high 3rd place in her heat race, but unfortunately the rest of the program was cancelled due to weather

Opening Night for the Modified

Chris Johnson would be the first VMS Motorsports driver to hit the track for the 2009 racing season on Saturday night, April 18th. The crew had the modified set up for a heavy track, but the track proved otherwise. Chris fought the ill handling racecar throughout his heat race, spinning, and finishing in 7th position.

A myriad of changes were performed between the heat and the A Main to correct the set-up, but when the car was fired to go to staging, the clutch pedal went to the floor. After receiving help from a push truck, Chris got the #5 modified into gear, but had to start at the rear of the field.  The car was handling much better, and Johnson was able to maneuver through slower traffic up to a high of 8th position until a rear suspension problem ended the evening. Chris was credited with an 11th place finish on the night.

Come on guys and gals, Don't make me do all the work! Told you that I would post the good, bad, or ugly.  ;)

Steve

Finished the car about a half hour before I had to leave for the track Friday night...finally. Drew pole for my heat, but didn't want to start anything after the 9 month layoff/first race since the wreck, so I started in the rear to feel it out, get re-aquainted. Passed a couple cars.

Started 11th in the Main, was running around 8th and spun myself into the infield. No contact and kept going. Dont know where I finished, somewhere a lap down. All in all I was happy, felt very comfortable in the car and didn't wreck anything...

Rained out tonight.  >:(

Jeff, you need to post the video from Friday, I bet it was pretty good, was a great race between you Brian and Eric from what I could see

The season opener for our local track (Electric City Speedway) got rained Friday night also.
They were sure giving it hell last night though! I could hear the engines screamin' from the Stocks and Modifieds during my breaks.
Man, I hate these weekend shifts!!!  :'(
No Legends or Bandos here though.  :(
LegendsNation posted an article about Montana Raceway Park; last weekends season opener.
http://www.legendsnation.com/2009_vault/legends_and_bandoleros/Montana_Raceway_Park_pr_5-5.html

Jim,
Sorry to hear about the spin. Skip the dramatic stuff this year!  ;)  ;D
Glad you and car got home in one piece!!!  I know it's been a rough off season for you.
I'm still behind you brother!

Jeff,
Congratulations on the heat win and the 2nd place finish in the main!
Check with Jim; Maybe he sells a windshied wiper or automatic tearoff for that camera.  :P

News from our friend free2race:
Mitchel got rained out at Monroe.
Bummer!!! I was looking for some good news from Kendrick Racing.
Hopefully next week!  ;)
Keep the faith!

I hope to hear from some of our other Bando members as well. Chance and Tristan had a seepage problem with the track Friday night. Race Canceled. But were supposed to be running Saturday. Tristan's first race. I had to remind him not to forget to pack munchies for the day. Probably couldn't get him out of the car anyway!
I think he would sleep in it... If Mom would let him!  ;D

I also hope Tracy has some news from Bethel Motor Speedway for us.  :)

Everyone,
Please keep the season's updates coming in. Post results, Pics, Videos... Whatever you got!!!
Most of you know me.... I LOVE Those Pics!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D

Best of Luck to ALL of the LegendsRacer Family!!!!!

I accomplished what i wanted to do on Friday and i'm happy. Ran the heat race and just tried to get used to the car and the track, and be able to run the feature. Finished the heat race just being put a lap down at the end of it. Then for the feature started to figure out the car after the last restart with about 5 laps to go. Gave all the leaders pleanty of room and brought the car home to run saturday(even though it got rained out). But now im ready for this saturday and looking forward to it.  :)

Latest News
  Race #2 - Evergreen Speedway
  5/3/2009

On Sunday, May 3rd, I got an opportunity to race in the afternoon at the Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. Normally we race on Saturday nights, but this was our one Sunday race of the year. I qualified 6th fastest out of 8 cars, 2 seconds faster than my last qualifying session on April 18th. This Sunday the Legends rookies raced in a Trophy Dash, 4 cars in a 4 lap shootout. I ran in 3rd place all the way until turn 4 of the last lap where I made the pass to finish 2nd, just a half car length behind 1st place. I continued to learn how to control and handle my car while racing my heat race finishing in 6th place. During my main event I started in 6th and ran most of it in 4th until I spun in turn 3. I got started back up without bringing out a caution and maintained a 5th place finish. I’m continuing to get comfortable with the car and I am looking forward to my next race at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval in Wenatchee, WA, on May 16th.

Race #1 - Rachel's First Legends Series Race
  4/18/2009

I have now completed my first ever Northwest Legends Series race! It was Saturday night, April 18th, at the Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. This was an excellent and challenging experience, but it was very exciting. I learned many aspects of the car racing wise, like learning the right line, when to brake and let the car roll through the corner and when to accelerate. I qualified ninth fastest, three seconds off the fastest car. Before my heat race, sitting in my car I was so excited and nervous. During the heat race I started to get more comfortable in the car and began a rhythm on the track and ended up finishing in seventh. I was very happy with myself for starting to understand the track and my car. During my main event I continued feeling more comfortable and finished in sixth place. Overall, I am happy with my performance and I feel like I accomplished my goals for my first race. My next race is again at the Evergreen Speedway on May 3rd.

Since, apparently, nobody raced this past weekend; I'll just have to post tidbits I found out about.  :o

Ethan54:

Had another good race last night. Got 6th out of 7 in my heat race. Started the feature in the back and not sure where i finished, no results posted yet. We're thinking around 16 out of 21 cars. The car was fast in the feature, a bit loose, but i could drive it. Had a close call where a car pinched me off and i started to lose it. As this was happening i saw Jeff had spun out on the exit of turn 2. I had the brakes to the floor as i was starting to spin out and came literally within inches of hitting Jeff. Continued on with the race and had a ton of fun.

News Update  (May 19, 2009)

New tires improved the performance of the Local Heroes Legend car this past week, and after some necessary adjustments to the right-rear brake, Jeremy was out in full force for the Feature, starting out-side pole.

He led several laps of the Feature and was holding the rest of the field at bay until a caution flag came out and the restart was unkind to the team.  A later caution flag and an error in the scoring tower led to a poorer finish than the team was expecting, but all in all, it was a good night of racing for JM Motorsports.

VMSmotorsports:

News Update (May 16, 2009)

The VMS Motorsports crew discovered an oil leak on the #5 Modified of Chris Johnson Saturday, and elected to forgo racing to have it repaired for the upcoming weekend triple-header attempt.

We also should have left Jim Bucher's #17 Legends car in the shop as it turned out. The VMS Motorsports, Precise Home Inspections car was great in hot laps, seemed like the set-up was right-on for the first night of racing at our home track of Charter Raceway in Beaver Dam. Bucher started 5th in the heat race, and was passing for 4th when he clipped the tractor tire/inside barrier in turn 4 of the second lap and ripped the rear end out of the Homes.com, The Agency Real Estate car. Repairs were too extensive to perform at the track.

News Update (May 17, 2009)

Myka Meyer traveled to Dousman to keep her season rolling on a Sunny Sunday. Her weekend started off poorly, like the rest of the VMS Motorsports team, with a wreck in her first heat race. She managed to repair the kart and finished 5th in the second heat race. Myka kept on improving through the day and managed a 4th place finish in the Main event.

The karts will be off for Memorial Day weekend.

KAB Motorsports:

 May 9, 2009

Opening Night starts with a bang, unfortunately not the bang we were hoping for.

After warm-up, our car was working very well with the new motor we had to install on Tuesday after a blown head gasket.  With the car performing well, we drew the #2 starting spot.  After 2 laps we got shuffled back a little, and then was getting ready to settle in when another car attempted to make it 3 wide going into corner 1.  As many know, this is not going to work out very well on the narrow exit of corner 2.  After being bounced around, the car went directly into the corner 2 wall and hit head on.  The car then rolled on it's side as I awaited for emergency crews to get there.
We are going to attempt to fix the car over the next week or two and get back onto the track.  The frame is bent in the front and rear.  Hopefully some luck will be on our side this time and the car will straighten out and be back into shape.

May 20, 2009

New car currently being built

After assessing the damage to the car after the crash on opening night, we have decided that it is too bent to be repaired.  There was much more damage done to the car than we initially had assessed as we had hoped it was save-able.  With some help from a couple competitors, we have completely striped the old car and it is currently in 3 larges pieces ready to go to the scrap yard.  The new car has been striped down in preparation of receiving the new cage.  We will not be able to race this week, however we are hoping that with some long nights ahead of us, that we can get the new car out to the track within the next couple weeks.  Pictures of the new car and build will be posted shortly.

Race #3 - Wenatchee Valley Super Oval
  5/16/2009

Last Saturday was my first time to race at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval. Although learning a new track can be difficult, this track is a lot of fun to learn. My third practice was when I really got the hang of the track by making marks when to get on and off the gas. I qualified, sixth fastest out of ten cars, which placed me in the third starting position for my trophy dash. For the first time I attempted to start in third gear on the start and then shift to fourth. It’s a lot harder than I thought because I missed the shift and fell behind by almost half a straightaway. The trophy dash is only a four lap race but I caught up to finish in third. In the heat I started seventh and finished in the same position. Also in the main event, I started seventh and finished in seventh. I was really happy I didn’t spin out at all during any of my races! My next race is May 23rd at South Sound Speedway in Rochester, WA.

I am sure I can dig up more. But I just don't have time! I monitor, and/or check, 15 or more member sites on a regular basis.
PLEASE POST YOUR RESULTS! As you just never know what embarrassing stuff I might dig up.

Thank You,

Steve

5-16-09 Charter Raceway Park

My night started off good by me winning my heat race, I am now 4 for 4 in heat races this season at four different tracks.  The feature started well, I start outside front row and tried the top groove but it was not the place to be yet and fell to 3rd.  After two restarts in the first 4 laps I got up to 2nd and was gaining on the leader in the low groove.  On lap 6 the leader slipped and I got a good run on his inside and we were side by side on the exit of the corner until we hit tire to tire.  This sent my car spinning into the infield and coming to rest up against a tractor tire.  The track let me sit there for a full lap before someone spun and came within an inch of hitting me before they threw the yellow.  I restarted at the tail of the field hoping I was on the lead lap and was on a mission to get to the front.  In the remaining 14 laps I went from 20th to 5th narrowly missing 3rd spot on the last lap.  After going through tech and leaving the track thinking that I had scored 5th place I learned later in the week that I had actually gone a lap down and finished 16th.  It’s a tough deal but that’s racing.  This weekend its off to Chilton on Friday and Charter Raceway Park on Saturday.

My season started out bad.  Blew the motor during hot laps, so didn't even get to race.

Looks like a plugged oil cooler did the motor in.  A nice new rebuild shot to bits.
Going to the texas style oil filter adaptor now, with just one big oil cooler fed from the oil pan.

My brother will be bringing his car out to the track on Friday for the first time this year.  He has a newly rebuilt 1250 to replace the severely spent 1200 from last year.  He should be having a fun time getting used to more power, and better gearing.

Good luck all,

Mike

I'm sure that there are others here that also follow the VMS team.

Best of Luck to You, CJ5 and Myka!!

Jeff,

I hope you have some better luck this weekend!
Sounds like that someone was Ethan. I think that got his heart pumping also!!!

Mike,

Sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your new engine.  :'(
I can't believe you didn't flush that oil cooler! Remember to flush out your oil lines also.
Give Eric my Best Wishes for this weekend!

To Everyone,

Best of Luck This Season!!!
Sounds like a rough start for most. Looking forward to better results in the upcomoing months!

Well I did flush the cooler with my parts washer.  Put the nozzle from the pump into one of the oil cooler inlets and kept the flow going until it looked fairly clear.  Of course it was kind of hard to say when it was running clear since my parts washer saw lots of use last year and the was starting to get a little murky.  Thing is, the cooler was plugged solid last fall when the race season ended.  It took a few minutes of keeping the pressure applied for the fluid to make it's way through.  A lot of nasty looking gunk came through at first.  I'm thinking it was from the clutch pads the last guy that owned the car was using.  They seemed to turn to a black slime when they wore down, and turned the oil nasty looking in one race.  The oil always had a burnt clutch smell after a race with those plates.  Went back to the stock clutch plates and had no problems.  I didn't test the flow of the cooler this spring since I'd cleaned it out in the fall before hanging up the cooler for winter.  I'm thinking that maybe the parts washer fluid sitting in the cooler over the winter managed to work some more gunk loose in the cooler lines, and dried out again over the winter.  My fault entirely for not checking.  Live, spend lots more money and learn!

Wont be going with the same oil cooler and oil line configuration when I get a new motor in her.  Going with the Texas style adapter and spin on oil filter at the back of the motor.  Two lines off the oil pan to one bigger cooler, and the top end oiler added.  Much simpler arrangement, and more oil pressure with better flow.

Should be good when back together.  Unfortunately it means I'll have missed at least 3 races, and we only have 20 or so races in a season up here.  I'll have to start going to some out of town races, and the nearest is 3 1/2 hour drive away.

Good luck all,
Mike

I did race this past saturday and sunday.  Saturday wasn't too bad finished 6th.  Sunday on the other hand sucked, got involved in a wreck caused by 2 other cars.  Hit one car with the left front of my car.  Jambed my wrist into the steering wheel, so that hurt.  The car on the other hand, so far needs a bumper, steering arm, and possibly a spindle.  Will get the car out of the trailer saturday.  Was going to work on it today but the guys are still working on my house from last yrs hail and they have their trailer parked in front of mine.

Hope to race this memorial day in MInot.

So Steve doesn't yell at me...

Friday Night at Chilton, made less than 2 laps in the heat race. By the time they got me out of the infield had quite a group of fellow racers waiting for my car to get off the hook. Intermittant fuel pressure loss. After the 2nd new fuel pump, swapping carbs, etc., it became an intermittant no spark, fuel was fine. Traced to a loose connection under the dash for the ignition switch. Luckily, pulling the carbs moved the choke cable enough to knock the wire completely loose, otherwise we never would have found it. I have to give a big thanks to everyone who came over to help...most of the time there were so many people working on my car I couldn't get near it.

Got it fixed with about 10 minutes to spare before the Main. Started 14th, finished 7th.

Oh yeah...Jeff won...blah blah blah  ;D

Hopefully Chris and I will both be racing in Beaver Dam tonight, but it IS Saturday, so Its raining  :-[

Jim,

As quick as you threw the car together, you are going to have to expect to work out some bugs.
It's awesome that "the guys" were willing to jump in and help!!! You don't always see that.
Did I forget to remind you to stay out of the infield? Sorry! My Bad!!!  :-[
I know I told you "The Hook" was never a good way to tow your race car.  :P
Good finish though!!!  Congratulations!

"Oh yeah...Jeff won...blah blah blah  ;D"
What kind of reporting is that!???
I expect something more like.... yeah, yeah, yeah; blah, blah, blah...Jeff won... blah, blah, blah.
Throw in some wild tale about blah, blah, blah... Pushed my car over the finish line... yahda, yahda, yada... But still managed to finish 7th.
It's all in the details.  :D :D :D

Seriously...
Congratulations Jeff!!!
I hope to see you contending for the chamionship!

Saturday sucked.

5th in the heat after starting on the pole. 3 cars had me in the first lap, lost 4th at the line after getting a little high in 4.
18th out of 22 in the Main after being hit on lap 12 by an over-zealous competitor and knocked from 11th to the rear of the field. Toe knocked out of whack so I just drove around.

Chris blew his engine in the Mod on the last lap of the B main.

Oh yeah...Jeff won...blah blah blah ;D

I swept the weekend winning my heat and the feature Friday at Chilton and Saturday at Charter Raceway Park.  At Charter in the feature I had a car spin down into me and hit my RR hard on the 2nd or third lap and tore my right side up but I still managed to win.  I looked things over a little closer and it tore the right side shock mount a little and was leaking gear lube and its also toed out 1/4" so it must have gotten bent too.  I got some work ahead of myself this week, way more than I should after winning all of my races.

Hey Everybody,
Had my 2nd race of the season last night, throttle stuck to the floor and I hit the wall in turn 3 at full speed, I am a bit banged up but the car is a total loss. Don't know about the motor but the chassis is so bent it is irrepairable, I am thinking it would be cheaper to buy another car ( and quicker ) than to buy a chassis and try and rebuild this one. Not a good way to start my season !

Brett, you're supposed to do that at the end of the season  :(
Keep your eye on the big picture, man, you're OK.
Real life trumps racing anytime.

Take care,

Sorry to hear about the throttle sticking Brett.  Glad you are OK.

Has anyone tried welding a toe bar on the throttle so it can be pulled back if it sticks?

Good job Jeff and Alex on the wins last weekend.

Toe Bar wouldn't help with a cable.

This is going to be opening weekend for the 77w car. I hope all goes well. As Paul Harvey would say stand by for the rest of the story.

Friday, Chilton, I had a few off track experiences. Once in the heat race and again in the main missing a spin. Started first in main but that didn't last long, just couldn't get off turn 2. Ended up 10th.

Saturday, had a decent run. I think I started 17th and finished 13th. I was in 11th through turn 3 coming to get the white but ended up 13th :( Too many yellows, was lucky not to be in any of them. Next on my things I NEED to buy is a set of tires. I think that would help out a good amount. Time to use the '05's as spares

Please be patient if you PM him and do not get an answer right away.

5/30/09 Beaver Dam, WI. I got 5th in my heat which got me a spot in the a main. The a main didn't start off good and got worse. Spun 11 laps in barely keeping up with the rear of the field, which then caused me to get into another car which brought out the caution. Noticed the toe got knocked out, so just rode out the remaining 9 laps avoiding a DNF. The track was pretty rough and my car just didn't stick to the bottom and couldn't drive it up top, so hopefully i have a better night on Tuesday.

Hi E-man,

Sorry to hear about that!!! Hope you will not have much to repair.
DJ told me you got your car scaled... Hopefully that will give you a bit better information on your set up.
Remember that the track changes throughout the night; So adjust your car accordingly. Watch the condition of the track.
Check some of the older threads for things you can adjust  to make slight improvements throughout the night.
I can send you some links if you need them.

BTW,
That LegendsRacer decal on the hood looks awesome!!!
Thanks for helping to promote the site!  ;)
I'll post the pic when I get time to resize it.
Can't say enough about that new avatar either!
Very Nice!!!  ;)

Best of Luck on Tuesday!!!

Theres nothing Ethan could have done different. The track was garbage. One lane way down low, the rest was undriveable.

Me-6th in the Heat, 3rd in the B to transfer, 16th in the A. We are running with the sprint cars on Tuesday, they usually have their own people come in and set the track up so it's usually a pretty nice surface.

So far this season my feature results have pretty much sucked.  But on the bright side, I still have been having fun and haven't banged up the car at all.  Hopefully this week I will get the carbs cleaned and maybe that will cure one of my problems, the other being a tired motor.  That solution might have to wait till Winter.

Don't forget cousin to a guy who powder coated his sprint car pink!

Looks like you and Weber were the only 2 with the ability to drive on that track...when Eric says "Joey just flew by me stuck to the bottom", you must have been impressive...I of course could not see it, backmarker that I am.

Does anybody know what happened to Jeff? I heard he wrecked in the heat, but got it fixed in time for the B...then next thing I know we had a red flag before the race started and I saw Jeff walking off the track...Then he was loaded up and pulling out before the A...?

yes that is me.  Jim, me and weber were both stuck to the bottom but i had to run all over that track to get to 2nd after starting 11th.  the trick wasnt to get it to stick to the bottom it was to get it to stick to the middle of the track where nobody else was running.

I made my first start today. I started 20th in a 26 car field. Worked my way up to 7th for the checkers. My car is still in one piece with no new scratches and all bumper tabs are straight ;D. Good day! Wish my dad had a better day. He had a battery short out on the first lap and killed the car. Would not even start with a push.

First outing of the year me also. Went Lincoln Speedway in PA. where their was 38 cars. I drew pill 66 out of 66 so the night was off to a great start. Started in the back of my heat and got a good run off the corner up high until a car made a right turn from the bottom and I had to stand on the brakes and the field got away from me by the time I got back to the gas. Finished 7th in the heat. Had to start B and made it to 4th so got a transfer spot to the A. Started 23rd in the A out of 24 cars so I decided to lay back just in case there was "the big one" and their was. I was able to have a front row seat for cars fliping and bouncing off each other. After the red I made it to 14th before the end and was able to put the car back in the shop with no damage. All in all a good night for such a big field and first race of the year.

9th out of 16 (I think) on Saturday at Springfield, MO.  I had to guess at the setup changes I made Friday night because one the the wires for my scale pads went bad Friday night.  Short of cutting the wire, I have not heard of these going bad before.  The car felt better and I am starting to get a feel for what it can do, so I could at least race people a little harder than I did the first night out.  I cannot get it to hook up coming off of the turn and am loosing time on people there.  I'll get the scales fixed and play around with some things before the next race.  Also looks like the brake adjuster for the right front is bad, so the car is pushing when I get on the brakes.  Getting the car to pivot too late because of the brake issue might be why I cannot getting a good run off of the turn.  Regardless, I felt a lot better in the car this time and had a lot more fun being able to race side by side with people.

Back in the car after 5 weeks off, we moved, and ran 3rd in the heat and 7th  in the main.  The car was BAD in the 1st hot laps, brand new tires. The 2nd hot laps and the heat it was good after putting some wedge in the car.  Then the main it was good for awhile then went real loose with about 5 to go.  Was a good night loaded it up and made a few bucks…:)

After a bad wreck in my heat and a roll over before the B-main I finally got my car back together.  In the heat race I ran over teh right rear of another car at teh end of the straight and got launched into the air and hit the wall then landed and hit the wall again.  All of the suspension was junk so we bolted all new front stuff on and got it going right before the B-main.  I pulled out on the track late and had to catch the while coming into turn three the car snapped loose, spun and the left rear caught a rut and the car rolled one and a half times.   The car was not in race ready shape which is why I had no control when I got on the gas.   The car was pretty rough so I left the races early and stripped the car down myself that night then went up to my Dads fab shop and I put a new front clip on  straightened the rear frame and rear housing.   I came home in the afternoon and started reassembly and got most of the way finished Sunday night.  Today I took a half day of vacation and finished it up about an hour ago.  I was able to save the body with the help of a lot of rivets and aluminum sheet metal.  Its off to Charter Raceway Park for the Kasey Kahne sprint car race so hopefully the car works as well as it did before the wreck.

I finally made it out for a race on Friday after installing my second motor this season.  Managed to stay at the back of the pack about 1/3 of a lap back from the lead for two heats.  Had electrical problems and had to sit out the feature race.

Went to Mosport to race on Saturday and only got 1 heat in before getting raced out.  At least I know the car is running good anyways.

Jeff already said it for me, damn!  ;D

Good job Jeff!

I spent the day re-inventing my car. Put some theories I had bouncing around to it and for me, found some stuff that wasnt right...it worked good. I have to say it was the most fun racing I've had yet. Started 2nd in the heat and finished 3rd (Jeff won that too) ahead of some better drivers than I.

Started the A main on the pole, and was slowly passed by the cars that belong ahead of me, finished 12th. The car handled great, and the track was perfect, as it always is when we run with the sprint cars. Alot of side by side clean racing by all and a caution free heat and Main.

Now we're back to the car being better than my driving...it wanted to be faster...I have to catch back up!

Finally a top 10 finish at Mandan - 6th after starting on the pole.  Still going backwards, but not dropping like a rock.  The car definitely ran better tonight.  I avoided a nasty 2 car rollover at the end of the backstretch, destroying both cars, but both drivers walked away.  Seeing that stuff makes me wonder if I should be out there.

Yeah, it kind of creeps you out seeing one of your best friends car sailing 15 feet in the air and you know it is going to be bad and then have to just sit there for 10 minutes or so with just your thoughts.  Then next thing you know you are out there getting after it, wheel to wheel again.   We sure are a smart breed  ;D

The first race that my 2nd wife attended (when I was running my modified), 1st and 2nd place got together...
Launching the 2nd place car into the air and going end over end down the backstretch at Stateline, Idaho.
The driver walked away a bit bruised and sore. Built another car, and was back racing within 2 months.

My wife never went to another one of my races after that. She encouraged me to sell my car at the end of the season.
I traded my race car for a race boat. Needless to say, I was shortly looking for wife #3.
God I miss that car!  ;D

finally managed to finish a race night with a whole functioning car.  A few things to check out after running into my brother though.  Had a push in the middle and loose out.  After putting the car back together, I had no idea where it all was, only had time to check toe.

Finished 7th in the feature, but that's really a mark of endurance more the distinction.  It was a race of attrition.  Lot's of tangles that sent cars off the track for the night.

So far I've lost a motor, had electrical problems, been rained out, and ruined my front left corner and I've only been to 3 races.  I'm hoping my bad mojo is all used up now!

Thanks Steve,

My brother is fine, his car had been loose, and the impact tightened it up just fine.

It cost me two radius rods, a steering arm, and a ball joint.  Not too bad for expenses.  I also had to weld the fender bracket back together and weld the steering spline back on the steering shaft.  The wheel was chucking from side to side so much that it finally cracked the steering shaft right below the spline.  Ended up one pit short of my pit almost running into my neighbors trailer when the wheel came off in my hand!

With help from a bunch of the other drivers, I was back out for the feature race.  Re welded all the broken steel today.  Should be fine for another year.  Now to send in an order for some new replacement parts...

Sounds like a wild night at Lorain County Speedway! Dave sent me this this morning:

"Hello, Well I raced last night at a very fast track, Lorain County. The car was loose in the 1st hot laps, then it rained for a hour.  After the track was dried we went back out for another hot lap session. After putting a 1/2 turn in the right front to tighten it up,  the was very good.  Got 4th in the heat. Then in the main, on the first lap, a car spun and it was a mess.  I stopped with the help of the rear bumper of another car; Then BAM!!!, a car goes flying over my right side.  I saw the underside.  The driver hit my tires and went for a ride.  I was able to contine with a bent up ft bumper and right rear fender that now needs aalot of work.  Check out the in car video of the car that hit me.  I am the black car just infront on the camera.."

http://legend85.blogspot.com/

The car flying through the air is our own Craig Schmidt ( legend85 ). Here is his account of things:

Crash Ends Our Night Early

What's worse than finishing dead last? Finishing dead last and not even completing the first lap. That's the way our Feature went Saturday night at Lorain County Speedway.

After finishing fifth in our heat with a much better handling car, we lined up in the 9th position for the Feature. Coming off turn 4 at the end of the first lap, a car spun at the front of the pack and set off a chain reaction that sent our car through the air after striking Dave Spotton's and Mike MacDonald's cars. The car sailed through the air and landed hard.

Check out the video  for a in-car account of the first lap. The bright lights seen at one point are the track lights, so I did get some air in this crash. Even after carefully padding the inside of the car, I managed to find un-padded places to strike with my arm and ankle. I bet I'm going to be sore tomorrow.

I told you... Post your results, or I will! Good, Bad, or in this case... OUCH!!!... Ugly!
I hope you are doing alright Craig!

Steve

More carnage at Dacotah Speedway. This from Brian (bback58):

June 12th - Dacotah Speedway -  I started the first heat in 4th place.  Shortly after the start I ended up in 6th place.  I chased the #77 of Dave Aberle and the #8 of Bill Hultberg and got by Bill on the last lap giving me a start up near the front of the feature.  I started the 18 car feature outside the 2nd row.  At the green flag I got a good start, but the red flag flew when #13 Troy Speten got tangled up with the #75 of Spencer Wilson and rolled his car several times in the first turn.  Spencer had some damage to his car but was able to re-join the action.  The restart wasn't as good for me and I slowly dropped back.  After a couple more caution flags, I ended up finishing the race in 8th place so I was pretty happy with that.  I might have said it before, but I think the old motor is getting tired after 123 nights of racing.  This winter I will have to look into a re-build or a new power plant.  I really had a lot of fun tonight and my car seemed to handle decent.  I had a lot of fun racing with the #77 of Dave Aberle as we spent several laps racing wheel to wheel and never got into each other.  With Troy Speten's rollover at the start of the feature, it made for another "bad night" as far as car damage goes, but otherwise it was a pretty clean race.  I sure hope this wrecking doesn't keep up.  Congratulations to Donavin Weist on winning tonight's feature.   Way to go Donavin!!!

Up an down night for me last night.

Started 3rd in the heat, took the lead for about 4 laps (more laps than I've ever led COMBINED over my 2 years), then got passed by Joey (joeracer22) and finally passed by another car and finished 3rd. Was probably the best racing I have done to date.

Then the A main...

Started on the pole,  pulled out to the lead, hit a rut and spun myself in front of the other 19 oncoming cars on lap 2...thankfully nobody touched me. Restarted 20th, slowly worked my way up to about 14th and spun myself again. The car would NOT handle. Was very frustrating to go from my best driving experience to my worst in the span of 2 hours. Just drove around to finish the race 17th (I think).

Upon loading the trailer, found that I sheared off a bolt in the left front spindle for the steeing arm, left front was just flopping side to side, but was still attached...must have broke off on the 1st lap. Glad I found something wrong, was very upset at myself before the discovery.

Oh yeah...Jeff won...blah blah blah!   ;D

Jeff was online earlier and didn't post another win? What's up with that???
Congratulations Jeff!

I think he's bored with winning...needs a challenge...hmmmmmm.
How about this...he has to run 20 psi on all 4 tires next week. We'll change up the Jeff specific rules every week for a new challenge!
I think "helmet on backwards day" will be a big hit!  ;D

I think Jeff should have to steer with some ropes like a soap box derby car.
I've seen him race at Charter and I think he could probably still pull it off.

I won, it was a little more difficult running the high side since their wasn't really a cushion but I still managed to make it work.  Apparently people are not happy with me winning so I am having our tech inspector come over this week and he is checking my chassis since a lot of people are complaining.  Its a bunch of BS and extra work that I dont need but I would rather do it at my house than the track.

Hey Guys,
After months of preperations and practice, I decided to enter our Charger(rookie) class and give it a shot.  I started fourth of four cars.  At the end of the 8 lap heat, I took the checkered flag for the win.  A little later in the night, I started front inside for the 25 lap feature.  I had one car that stayed on my bumper for about 18 laps, but spun coming out of two.  The other two cars were two far back to catch me.  I won my first feature race, actually my first race ever.  It was all pretty exciting.  I imagine I'll keep running in this class for a couple of weekends to continue gaining experience before jumping out there with the big boys, which usually run about 12-15 cars.

I want to thank all of you for helping me with the questions Ive had over the last couple of months.  This site has provided me with great information that just isnt available anywhere else, that Ive found.

Thanks again!
Todd aka knuclebuster

I finished 12th out of 17 in the feature after hitting a tractor tire on the infield.  I hate tractor tires.  Might as well just line the infield with big oak trees or something.  From what I was told by everyone, a car was trying to get under me and I came down and we made contact, then he got hit and I got hit a second time which sent me into the tire.  Glad my wife explained what happened before I talked to the other guy, because all I felt were two hits in the same turn so I was pretty ticked.  Only took out the front bumper and damaged the connection inside of the spark plug wire boot, so it would not grip the plug.  It was popping when I restarted, so I just went to the pits.  My brakes got worse this week so I had to pump them in every turn.   Pumping up the brakes is not the best way to get a good corner entry, which was messing up my corner exit.   Guess the bias valve was not the entire problem.  I'm going to replace both front calipers and pads and see if it fixes the problem.  We noticed that the bleeder on the right caliper was not releasing a lot of pressure when we bled them last week, so there is probably air trapped in the system somewhere.  Not sure how old the calipers are and the car sat for over a year, so they are probably rusted up or something.

Todd,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Good to see you out there giving it a shot! That's exciting to get a feature win your first time out!!!
Stick with what you are comfortable with. Gaining more seat time and racing experience will help you a lot when you decide to move up.

Best Of Luck!

John,

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Sounds like it was a rough weekend for several people.
Is your brake valve hooked to that right front caliper? Just checking.
Hope things go better for you the rest of the season!

The brake valve would start to come into play after pumping the brakes 3 or so times, so that part of it is working.  Thought my brakes were a little weak, but they are much worse after trying to bleed them last week.  My left leg is tired after pumping the pedal that much.   :)

Took the new car out for the Qualifier last weekend, car did great after a gear change and some tweeking on the setup. Was running top 12 in the feature when my ignition wire broke and put me out of the race at lap 25. But no problem, was just one of those racing things

Saturday in Beaver Dam i had to race in the b main. First lap of the race i spun out by over driving the corner. I recovered quickly and passed 2 cars in the next 11 laps and then a caution came out with 4 to go. I passed another car on the restart and at the checkers got beat by a half a car length for the transfer spot. Although i didn't make the feature, I was still happy with the car and looking forward to next week.

Finished 7th in the heat after the right rear rolled off the bead. Didn't have the beadlock correct. Warren Ropp took the wheel over to his trailer and mounted it correctly while I was running the B main. Started 6th finished 2nd in the B.

In the A main I started 17th and was up to 7th with 5 laps to go. What must have happened going into turn 3 is the plate that the steering rack sits on broke. I remember turning to the right, but in the video the wheels never went straight or even back to the right like I remembered. Broke some mounts in the rear and bent the housing up.

Steenbergen welded up the broke mounts in the back and the steering rack plate. Now I just have to wait for the new rear end housing and put it in. Should be good to go then.

Sunday night I got involved in 2 accidents during the feature.  The first one I could see the guy losing control on the front stretch.   I went wide to get around and as I came by he finally started coming around and he clipped me, giving me a nice slide.  Thought I was going to back it into the wall at first, but didn't hit anything and continued on.  Several laps later I saw a car spin to the infield in turn 2 so went wide following a car up ahead.  Big mistake.  I didn't know he was involved and was stopping with a broken spindle and I rear-ended him hard.  Holy crap, it sure happens fast!  Anyway, I drove to the pits with a broken steering arm and a couple of broken/bent aluminum rods and a smashed in grille.  Hopefully that is all the damage.   My 12th night of racing for the season and my first DNF and I think I got by pretty lucky on the damage done so I'm not in a bad mood about it.    Check out the in-car video at     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P70psLCDxDc

I was going to work on it last night, but we got 8+ inches of rain last night and today, so now I'm not in a hurry because this weekends races will surely be cancelled.  The pits are pretty much full of water.

4th in the heat. Started outside pole for the A main, someone lost an exhaust and of course I ran it over before they threw the yellow. Still dont know what I did to the car, but it would turn in just fine, but in the middle of the corner I could turn the wheel to left lock and still go straight to the fence. Thought the RF went down, but it is fine. Everything looks good on the surface. Will have to pull it apart, finished 15th.

Happy Fathers day everyone.

A couple side notes:
Chris won his B main last night in the modified and finished 13th in the A
The Legends A main was won by Kevin Brill using R2C air filters...good job Kevin!

That was my muffler Jim. It broke off real early, lap 2 or 3. I think 4 - 5 different cars run it over including myself. If I can get this car to stay together for a whole race I think I could get some decent finishes with it.

Wahoooo!  Got a second place finish in my first heat this week!  My God but that felt good.  (first time for that good a showing, can you tell?)

I had gone over the car pretty carefully over the weekend.  Lubricated the caliper sliders, re-greased the wheel bearings, double checked all the settings, replaced the rear end housing with a nice newly straightened one.  New gear oil, new oil change, new oil filter, new fuel filter, cleaned the carbs, lubed the air filters, re-tweaked the ride heights, you name it.  Looks like the extra attention paid off.  She ran like a dream and kept me at the front of the angry mob.  Had 2 restarts and managed to pull away both restarts.

If only I could have kept the car sticking like that for the rest of the night.  Going to have to work on that next.  Couldn't stick it as well as the night got cooler.  Need to learn what tweaking is needed as the temps drop.

YOU were DQ'd for rough driving!?!?! I guess I can't comment because I didn't see the front of the field for too long, just seems out of character from how I've seen you drive in the past. I suppose the flag man only concentrates on the front of the field, but the same car hit and spun Grant and I, beat the Heck out of Luke to get past him to drive through the infield and crush my left front at the finish line. But I guess thats just racing, right?

Didja hear they DQ'd the entire field in the Grand National race?

Oh well, back to try again on Saturday and Sunday. Congratulation Joey!

Good luck with the move. Im not going to comment on your phrase-ology about your girlfriend.

I don't have cable by me, I had Dish, and now have DirecTV. Liked Dish better to be honest, mainly for ease of programming and searching, but after the 6 month promo price, they got alot more expensive than DirecTV. And their customer service sucks.
I'm saving $12.00 month with DirecTV and have more HD channels.

Also have satellite internet, but thats usually a local thing, so I can't say much about that in Montana

Hi Steve,
Good luck on the move.  Depending on the cell phone coverage in your area, you might want to think about doing a wireless broadband card from one of the cell phone providers instead of Dish.  We priced it out for my parents since they do not have a high speed internet provider in their area, and the broadband card was less expensive.

Well, pulled 3+ hour one way for a qualifier and got a BIG DNQ. I drew pill 48 out of 50 and started in a hole and never got out. I'm still not sure how you have a qualifier and don't start everyone? Maybe I should ask 600 that question. I did have fun and it was probably a good thing that I didn't make the A main because it was a crash fest with a roll over to boot. Ask Vern how he made out. He is probable not on because he is still fixing his rear clip. Isn't racing fun? Until next time.

What? I guess I need to watch the news once in awhile. NASCAR has been going through some crazy stuff lately.

John,

I will check into our broadband situation here. We are still somewhat behind the rest of the world here in Montana. I was thinking that it would be good to bundle my internet with my TV, may have to change my train of thought. Thanks for the info!

No Steve, not the Nationwide series as it's now called, I was speaking of the Grand National division at Chilton when we last raced here. They told everyone at the drivers meeting to race on the track, not the infield, but nobody listened, and there were full cars in the ditch racing, so now the implement tires are coming back in the infield.

I personally didn't see it, I loaded up and left immediately after our race to keep from starting an altercation, but apparently they just decided to give everybody equal pay and points for the night.

I have no idea where I finished last night. Changed the set up a bit, and that combined with the track being prepared right  (raced with the WoO Sprint Cars) made for a fun night! I ended up somewhere between 8th and 15th, but I have no idea, was just racing with a group of cars and had no idea the checkers even came out, was having too much fun. Got hit a few times on the cool down lap by one of our more "aggressive" drivers who apparently didn't know the race was over either(no one on this board), so I finally, after 2 years of never retaliating, spun him.

It felt good  ;D

Finished somewhere in the top 15 last night. I got to run with cars that i haven't been able to run with yet with the help of new tires and a tweak to the setup. Almost got up in the top 10 until the final caution came out with 2 or 3 laps to go. The car was too tight at that point and got passed by a few cars but still managed to stay in the top 15.

Came back to finish 6th with 4th and 5th running side by side in front of me. Never touched a car and had a lot of "fun" ;D. Had a bad night at Springfield, MO Saturday.  The engine was popping really badly during the heat race, so I pulled off in case it was mechanical.  I had people from half the legends teams helping me all the way up to when we lined up for the feature (thanks if any of you all are reading this).  We were not able to get it fixed, but it was running so I was going to pull out and at least take the green flag and collect money for last place, then it completely died on the parade lap.  I'll put the details on what the engine was doing in the Engine section of the board if anyone has any thoughts.

I am having trouble looking up specific rules. Brain dead I guess. There must be some provision in the protests and such that provide for that. Soon as I get some sleep I will look into that for you. In the meantime, maybe some of the other members have some advice or experiences to share with you. If you are legal, I would think the burden should be on the protesting party. If you are illegal then I can see the burden being on you. Just really don't know at this point. PM me the circumstances and specific protest, and I'll see what I can do to help.

Claim Rule:

"The claimer may choose to have the INEX tech
inspector send the claimed engine to INEX headquarters
(or an INEX-approved inspection site-determined by the
Executive Director) for inspection for an additional fee of
$250 (payable to INEX). The INEX representative at the
track will be responsible for holding the engine until the
time of shipment (this cannot be done after the claimer
leaves the track with the engine). The claimer must pay for
shipping charges and inspection fee and the engine must
be sent to INEX within seven (7) days of the claim by
the INEX representative. If the engine is not at the INEX
inspection site within seven (7) days, the payment will be
given to the claimee and the engine will not be checked for
legality. The engine will become the property of the claimer
immediately.
Upon inspection of the claimed engine, if the claimed
engine is found illegal in any way, the check for $5,670
will be returned to the claimer (who is still responsible
for shipping charges to the inspection). All illegal engine
components will become the property of INEX. Legal
components of the 1200 engine will be returned only at
the discretion of INEX and at the expense of the claimee.
Th e claimee may also be fi ned and must pay all fi nes prior
to the legal components being returned. Th e driver may
also face possible additional penalties by INEX. All illegal
1250 engine components (items secured by seals) will be
impounded and become the property of INEX. It will be
the engine builder’s responsiblity to reimburse the driver of
a car found with illegal components secured by seals.
If the claimed engine is found legal, the owner of the
engine being claimed receives the $5,670 and the engine will
be sent to the claimer (who is responsible for the shipping
charges of the engine’s shipment)."

You, the claimee, should not have had to pay for shipping, see yellow writing above.

Thank You Jim! Knew I saw it somewhere.
I think most of the rules are similar, depending on who is in the wrong.
Usually, If you are found not guilty of an infraction, the complaining party is responsible for fees or charges. Unfortunately, it does not apply to your time to pull and reinstall the engine, fluids, etc...  :-\

The claimer is to pull the engine, and you shouldn't lose fluids, all we have is oil, and theres a  50% chance that its time to change the oil anyway. You'd have to re-install it, true, but they also have rules pertaining to jack-ass claiming, so it shouldnt happen too often.
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009

There is always one in the crowd.
I agree with the oil change... But if you were not due to change it until the following week /or race, Then it is a P.I.T.A. expense.
I guess that is just part of the claiming or grievance process that we have to deal with.

Is there a difference in the rule between a "claimed motor" and a "protested motor"?  Don't have time to pull out the rule book now, but I do not think that it should take two weeks without an engine plus shipping expense for a "protested" motor.
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009
Post by: JGRacing on July 15, 2009, 02:42:17 pm
Here is what I found on page 65 regarding a protested motor.  I'll keep my opinion to myself about the rule, but looks like it could be used as a pretty good weapon for someone wanting to cause problems for another racer.

CHECKING THE PROTEST: The protested component will
be removed from the car or made available for inspection by the
protested team’s crew and inspected by the INEX tech inspector.
The following people will be permitted to be present at the protest
site: protested driver and crew (the crew shall leave once the part is
removed), protester, INEX tech officials and a speedway management
representative. If a decision at the track cannot be made, then the
component will be sent to INEX for a final decision on legality. On
a protest, it is the driver’s duty to prove his legality, not the tech
officials or protester’s duty to prove the violation.

WHEN THE PROTEST FINDS A LEGAL COMPONENT:
After inspection, if the protested component is found legal, the
protest money will be given to the driver of the car from which
the component was protested (less reasonable inspection fees
and shipping charges determined by INEX). The shipping
costs of an engine to an engine rebuilder is not covered.

page 106 sealed engine inspection card.  I thought all the  tech had to do was check the seals see if they were tamperd with but the 3 paragraph says engine must be removed.  and the 08 madonna winner who protested me choose to have it sent  to inex. If you have money you can mess with any driver who is better than you. No one from inex  tech ever got back to me about charging the protester extra to cover my lost.  ps  the following week was a 1500 to win race at grundy, we could not race no motor. guess who won.         pissed off dad

The money always wins, no matter what the propaganda says, and I'll leave it at that.

On a side note...You should find a new supplier for your oil...full retail is $15/qt...hope you didnt have 6 quarts in there!
No, i don't sell it, so i'm not trying to drum up business!

the shipping cost was 8 bucks from pit stop.  use to use gtx 20 -50  tried  the xp3 and gained 2-10ths with just the oil change. seems to run cooler too.  seems the cheapest price was  from pit stop.  we been trying different fuels also from vp  becoming too expensive to stay in front .  not worth the expense for a 75 dollar win purse.  but now that he is winning every race have to stay ahead of the pack. hope that someone will offer him a ride in a late model.  if not at least we know what we can do with  a legend car on paved track. maybe next year we will try dirt and start all over.
Title: Re: How You Doing? 2009

Would this apply?

IF THE COMPONENT IS FOUND LEGAL: The
protest fee will be given to the car owner who owns the
protested component (less applicable inspection fees &
shipping charges). If the component is found legal and
the checking of that protested component requires an
engine re-assembly, the protester will be responsible for
the cost of re-assembling that engine.

Page 106

I guess this pretty much covers it  :-\ :

If the engine is found legal, the engine will be
re-assembled and re-sealed, then returned to the
owner. The inspection fee will be used for shipping
and inspection costs.

Page 107

Am wondering if you could counter- protest whether it was really necessary to send it to 600 Racing?
Can you recover costs for re-installation, oil, etc...???

Had a great run today! We were rained out Friday night and postponed till today. The track was a bit slick but was able to manage a second place finish in my heat. Started 7th in the feature and after a hard fought battle I claimed the lead by lap ten. The car developed a bad push with ten to go. The caution came out with three to go and I lost the lead on the restart because of the push. Finished second with my car in one piece. Definately looking forward to next week.

Not so good night for me. Finished 9th in my heat race on a well oiled track. Started 10th in the feature and was wrecked by someone who ran out of talent. Parked his car on my hood. I was able to finish the race in 8th coming from the back of a 20 car field with a bad vibration (bent wheel).

Rear suspension is junk, left rear wheel is bent, left front fender and hood. I have a tire burn on the windshield pillar and windshield. Also the fitting for the top end oiler has a small crack. I don't know how I finished as well as I did. The rear end is over 4 inches to the right and the right trailing arm has a 2 inch bow in it pulling the axle forward. I need to place an order with VMS Motorsports.

This sucks.
Friday, rained out.
Saturday, best run of my life (6th in the "A"). Started 3rd, led 4 or 5 laps, then settled into 3rd and could barely see the cars behind me on the in-car camera, then we got a caution and I got lined up behind a lapped car, slowed me down just enough, then I overdrove a bit to try to get back up there and lost another 2 spots.
Sunday, rained out.

Nothing like getting all pumped up with a good finish and then getting rained out.

Guess I'll go talk to my wife and kids or something  :P

Lead most of my heat race then a guy got around with 1 to go, so 2nd.  Then in the main ran in the top 5 the whole race then there was a front running car spinning off of 4 last lap. Yellow light came on and I slowed and went high.  The track then through  the checkers and it was over. Well when the yellow came out I was passed by 4 cars and the track did not restart or reset the line up to the last lap so, after in the lead pack and top 5 I got ^@^%%&)# 9th!!:(

Ol well loaded it up and had a good night , but still sux

Thanks guys. Saturday in Beaver Dam i started on the pole and was running 2nd and 3rd throughout the first 18 laps and couldn't get above the leader to pass him. Then on the last lap i hit a bump coming out of turn 4 and almost completely lost the car and finished 6th.

Tonight in Sun Prairie the car ran pretty good in the heat race finishing 5th. For the feature i started on the outside front row and overdrove the first corner dropping back a few spots. With about 5 laps to go a car got loose above me and hit my RF pretty hard which broke the spindle. Should have the car ready for saturday.

We got rained out Friday half way down to Davenport, IA for the national qualifier, a 3 hour trip for nothing.  We raced in Beaver Dam last night and I won my heat and the feature.  Its been almost 2 months since I won my last feature so this won feels pretty good.  I have been having a lot of little issues with my engine that I have finally gotten behind me and its running great now.

Didn't have a good night on saturday. Spun on the last lap in the heat race and got hit pretty hard in the LF and LR. I think the final damage was 2 broken tie rods, bent lf lower a-arm, broken spindle and ball joint, broken lr and rr trailing arms, bent panhard bar and broken upper link, both left side wheels were bent really badly and the lf fender is cracked from front to back in 2 spots. I also think the steering rack took a good hit and is bent up pretty good. After the heat race when i saw my car i thought my season was over and definately the night...but i have to send a HUGE thanks to all the guys that repaired my car. I was hoping just to get it on the trailer for the night, but somehow with the help of 10-12 people including my dad and DJ they put it together for the feature. I wasn't planning on running the full feature and i didn't. Around lap 6 or 7 i decided to pull off. Couldn't risk anything else happening but i was surprised the car was actually running ok and running with the back of the pack cars after they put it together so fast.

Again i have to send a big thanks to all the people that put my car back together and got me back on track.

Our car has been doing pretty decent this year when we're not spun or collected by a wreck.  The worst we've done w/o being involved in an incident is a 3rd w/ 2 Feature wins and 3 Heat wins (out of 5 full race nights) thanks to our talented driver Paul DeJong.

The car is still in pieces at the race shop after our first decent wreck that we actually made contact w/ something.
-rear frame rails folded over (replaced w/ welded in new stock)
-rear end long tube bent, LR lollypop torn away from tube (replaced w/ "straightened" rear end)
-RR rim bent
-short axle bent at flange (replaced)
-trailing arms bent (replaced)
-LR shock sheared off at lower  (replaced)

Price can't be disclosed.  ;D ..found in Western Idaho.
It wont look like that when it hits the track next year...is already undergoing transformation.

Note...if its ugly, buy it anyway. Paints cheap, but finding out that its a wrap that somebody spraypainted over is even cheaper! Underneath the wrap its 2 tone Metallic blue and Pearl white...so far what has been peeled off looks very nice. Have my nieces working on un-wrapping it...

Other car is fine, but just can't pass on a good deal, and I've always wanted a back-up since "The Big Wreck of 2008"...video below

Well had my best run of the season going this past friday in Mandan.  Was runing 2nd and 3rd for most of the night, and the leaders were not runningaway from me. Then it happened...... I flipping looped the car causing the caution. >:(  Restarted 16th, and made a run back to the front with 6 laps left.... ending upin ninth.  Th car was awesome and so was the track.  If only I wouldn't have spun.... who knows what would have happened.

7 more races left this season and still hoping to pull a feature win.

Been having an interesting season.  I've gotten a 2nd, a few 3rds, 4 or 5 4th place finishes in the heats.  Best in a feature is a 3rd.  The next time I raced after that 3rd, I got taken up into the wall in corner 1.  Bent the front clip, destroyed lots of parts and fiberglass.  Had to bring the chassis down to North Carolina to give it to Jeff Jorden to reclip and stress relieve it.  Got an old 2 bar chassis to run with while waiting for the other chassis to be repaired.

Left from work and did a marathon drive from Ottawa to Brighton ontario, (3hrs), then back to kingston (2.5hrs) then down to NC (14hrs) so I could drop it off and pick up the new chassis.  Stayed overnight and drove straight back home. (15hrs)   All that after working crazy overtime hours.  Worked an extra 149 hours of overtime in that month.

Managed to get the chassis back home, painted the chassis and 3 fenders, reassembled with the help of a fellow racer (thanks ricky bobby) and got on the track literally as the green flag dropped for the first race.  Hadn't had a chance to scale the car yet, so was a light tight, but managed to pull out a decent race night.  My next race night was a mess though...  Forgot to tighten the ground screw on the motor in all that rush...  Bad ignition problems plagued me all night.  Made a mess of the feature start when the car pooched it while starting on outside pole.  Should have scratched it, but nothing teaches like a mistake.

Looking forward to a fun race on Wednesday

Cheers!

Was running 5th in the A on Friday when a particular driver hit me in turn 4 of the last lap. I'm still going to blame him even though after watching the video, he was fully past me before I lost control  ;D

Spun all by myself while running 2nd in the heat on Saturday, then had a right rear trailing arm bolt break in the A. Wrecked a bunch of stuff, both rear shocks, all 4 rear bars, driveshaft tore off the rear end, etc...Rear housing looks ok, but havent taken that close of a look yet. Seems like a waste to fix it for one more show this year, but I will not end my season tore up for a second year in a row.  :-\

After wrecking second race of the season, got another car and consistently ran a faster time right to the last race of the season. The track got oiled up in the feature before us and I spun out coming out of four but got it going before the caution came out. ( I should of waited for the caution , then I wouldn't have been passed :)  ) but it was our championship night and I did not want to do that to the guys running for the top spots. But all in all it was a great season.

:o      Today was the first race in my 6 race " because of the friggin rain" rookie season runnin a legend that I felt competitive and got the car to handle decent. I started 9th out of 20 cars  got passed by 2 cars @ the green then I started making my way threw the field & made it up to 6th was working over 5th on the high side, he got bad loose so I hit the brakes to avoid hitting him and got passed by 2 cars then going into turn 3 I over drove the turn and got loose. I ended up finishing  8th. This might not sound that good to you guys but from were the car started the year to now I'm PUMPED, plus I was within a tenth of a second in traffic to the leaders!!!!  Oh did I mention that I'm the only one runnin a legend as a dwarf, runnin them damn stock toyota drum brakes against high dollar wilwood braking systems, and having everyone say " why don't you get rid of the legend and get a dwarf " it made me feel good to put it to them  ;D :D :o

Last points race of the year.  Car was good then 1 lap in to the heat the motor started running very bad.  Found that it was only running on 3.  Found that the bat. is shot and had low a charge.  Charged it up and it ran good,....happy about that, Started tail of the main and made it up to 8 then did a quick spin out of 4 and NO ONE HIT ME :)  After that it was hard to start .  After a few minutes it built up some voltage and started.  Went to the back and in 5 laps got all but one of the spots back that I lost due to the spin.  The car was great and I was passing on the outside it was fun.  Finish 8 in points...:) overall, call it a season

Tom,

It's not too hard to convert to rear disc brakes. You don't have to go with the Wilwoods; You could use Toyota front disc units and a Hawk adapter. Or perhaps pick up a set of Wilwood calipers (used) for around $20 - $25 each. The discs, bearings, etc... can be bought at any auto parts store or picked up from a wrecking yard fairly reasonable.

Sounds like you have been making some great improvements.
Keep up the good work!

Steve

Dave,

Congratulations!
I know you had a few problems throughout the season; But over all, a very nice end to it all.

Not sure how you did all of that in that short of an amount of time, but it's pretty impressive.  I can relate on the ground wire issue.  Hope your season gets a little easier.

Thanks,

Season got a bit better, but to be honest I was doing better before having to change chassis.  Just have to learn the new chassis and settle on a setup to get used to.  Hoping our last race tonight is a lot more fun than the last.  The track changes horribly through the evening with the severe temperature changes.  It's hard to know where to start with the setup.

Our season is over finaly. I was able to pick up one feature win racing with a Nascar driver (JR Fitzpatrick- he will be racing at Talladega this weekend in a KHI truck). Brad had a good season with a third place for his best finish.  Our banquet was last night. I was fifth for the season and Brad finished sixth. Brad was also awarded with a trophy for "best looking car". Brad is also the INEX Canadian champion for the Bandolero Bandits. So over all a good year.

We were done Sept 12, but last night I took the car to a car cruise for Halloween. The race car was a big hit with kids, well with everyone.  There was about hundred cars and we all were handing out candy..good times.

And I parked the trailer and drove it in, so I got some seat time in before the snow..LOL

The last race of my season was my best ever by far.  Sooooo close to a win.  Got passed at the finish for a 2nd place finish.
I can hardly wait for next season now!
