1200's vrs 1250's

      From a performance standpoint, is there a difference between the two. If so is it significant? Thoughts?

We run on dirt in oz, had a 1250 sealed and was great till it blew, then we went to a stock 1200 with carbs and clutch as only mods. We found on a grippy track we struggled to have pull out of corners but on a slick track the power was delivered better and we would be competitive.

The 1250's have an advantage.  
That said, I run a 1200. I would rather work on my own stuff than send it 1000 miles away.
You will see the 1250 advantage much more on asphalt than dirt

The dyno numbers say no. The 1250 under the current USLC rule book outperforms the 1200. Numbers vary, depends who you ask, what I have seen is about 10h.p less, the torque is where I feel the 1200 lacks under the current rules.

I am just wondering what a 1200 with zero laps on it is worth?  I just picked one up from my engine builder and really don't need it, it has top end oiler, alt, starter already on it.  What do you guys think a good price is?

Probably not very much, Maybe $500 or so. Ill do you a favor and take it off your hands. 

Seriously though. Im seeing refreshed 1200's out this way between $1500 - $2500. Not sure what you would ask for a new one.

That is cheap!  It looks like it will have a nice sitting spot in the corner of my garage.  I would think it would be work double that but  maybe I am going crazy from all the rain

Although someone once told me you can buy a brand new 1200 from Yahmaha for around $4200. Dont quote me on that.

pretty sure you can no longer buy a "NEW" 1200. I believe yamaha only makes the 1250 version now, amd even those you can't just go to a yamaha dealer and buy (unless maybe you live in the UK or Japan)

I think you are correct, this was built both top and bottom end

I would ask about $3500 to $3900 depending on the builder. If it was a local cycle shop you could prob only get about $2800.
