From the picture, it looks like it could be Micarta.  This type of material is used in a lot of applications, and high heat is one of them.  McMaster-Carr sells a similar product here: http://www.mcmaster.com/#garolite/=ms4xk5 .

I think Micarta might be a brand name.  Here is more info: http://www.eplastics.com/Plastic/Micarta

Thank you very much for the material info guys!  ;D

looks like Garolite (CE) might be the common name for that material. McMasters site says 235 degrees is its max temp. that would open up a few different materials for me to try @ or above that temp.

So I guess my next question to all is: What would you prefer as the material for the sending unit? Aluminum or a plastic?

Andrew,

I like the aluminum piece. No plastic to break or warp.
Although the plastic material may be cheaper for any kind of production.
My thought, for what it's worth.

The only thing that makes me want to try\do the plastic is that it would be less work on my end  ;D

And then I could be like 600 and get repeat costumers  ::), lol

My 2 cents, for what it's worth, stay with the aluminum.

I'm with the norm. I would pay a little more for the aluminum piece.

My opinion, I would keep what you have going and not worry about the plastic plate for now.

looks like its time to get the working on fixtures to make a few at a time!  ;D

Anyone know how to add more hours in a day?

WHAT?!!!! There aren't 32 hours in a day?
Somebody should tell my employer.
 :D :D :D

Andrew,

Stick with the aluminum. So far, results are good with the lenses. Don't make it more expensive than you have to.
