Looking for help, advise, anything...
« on: June 06, 2010, 04:42:40 pm »
This may be a weird question, but I'm looking for a crew/team  that is near Lake Erie Speedway that would be willing to help a newbie get into Bandolero racing.  I'm a 20 year old college student and I'd like to get my own car when I get out of college, but I'd like to help a team out this season if I could.  I'm not a mechanic lol, I've helped my dad who is one with our cars and I'm just an overall hard worker.  If anyone needs an extra hand for no cost please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I'm sure that if there is a member in your area, they would always be willing to accept an extra hand. As Bandos don't pay out cash money, they really couldn't likely afford to pay you anyway. Good learning experience though. Hopefully someone will contact you. Welcome To The Site!
Always good to have someone who is interested.

Best bet is to go to the track and talk to the guys next weekend. I'd bet 90% of people would be happy with an extra body around to help. See who you get along with, and go from there.

Jim is right... Just check out your local track.

If I could get a Canadian garage built and move everything under one roof, I'd love to have someone who wanted to learn.

I'm close enough to Canada..... Just don't have a garage with a heated floor.
Come to think of it; My garage doesn't even have electricity...
I really am living in the dark ages!!!  :-[
 ;)

Chris,

All kidding aside; DO go check at your local track. There are always people looking for some help. It's also a good learning experience for you.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll probably go on down to the track next Saturday and see what I can find out.  I'd come up to Canada... if I had a passport and if it was close to Niagara Falls since I go up there all the time lol  ;D  Wish I could have gotten started in racing when I was a kid but the only thing my dad raced was RC cars  >:(

Hey Chris,

I live in Montana... Or Southern Canada as my girlfriend sees it. lol! (Southern girl) Not a lot of racing here; And the season is very short. My dad never raced a car in his life, but was really into cars. We restored several antique cars together. He never got to see me race................... But let me talk him into building a hotrod before he passed away.

Don't give dad a hard time because he likes RC cars. Did you have fun racing the RC's? It's all about the bonding with your dad. It's never too late to start racing, or be interested in racing, or cars. I have never been an" ace" driver... But I enjoy the sport and the technology.

Fathers Day is coming up... The day my dad past away 7 years ago. (8 pretty soon) Embrace that your dad is still here. Took me 7 years just to go to a car show without him. He was my best friend.

The joke with the Canadian garages stems from one of our members that has a heated floor in his garage up in Canada. Jim and I like to remind him how lucky he is. Any time you stay warm in the middle of winter and still work on your car is a good thing!

OK.... With all that said; NO probably about it... Go to your local track and see if anyone would like an extra hand. Maybe the track could even need an extra hand. I'll bet you'll get more bites than you can keep up with!
Let us know how many teams would like your help. ;)

Regards,

Steve

Here's another question I just thought of, I'm 6 feet tall... I am too tall to even fit in a Bandolero?  I'm also looking at Compacts and Legends too, basically whatever I can get at this point.

You can definately fit in a Legend 34 coupe or any sedan, not sure about the round top coupe though. I'm 6' and my other driver is 6"3"

Your too old for Bando cars. Legends would be good! I would think you could get into compacts pretty cheaply.

Legends are kind of pricy, so I'll probably start off with a compact when I get out of college and then in the future possibly get a Legend.

personally i enjoyed the bando than the legend car, I had the old bubble top coupe and had no room at 5,10. The bando had alot of leg room but there were no more adults racing outlaws. But either way they are a blast to race

So, you can just walk into the pits at your local track?
