BFG Breakin procedure
« on: June 04, 2010, 12:14:19 am »
Is there a break-in procedure for newish BFG's.
When I bought my car it came with a new set of cut BFG's (that were a year old), never been ran.  I was going to run them at my last race but was told by some guys that I needed to break them in first?  Not sure how to do that.

I would rather have Federals as I won't be learning much about my setup with the BFG's for later this year and next (hint, hint if you want to buy these before I run them I'm looking for Federal funding and not the government type).  I heard some folks are searchin for remaining BFG's that they can get their hands on.

Anyway any help is .....well....helpful:)

Thanks,
Gerad

I breifly checked and the shipping is about $20 per (assuming the tires are ~20lbs each) they may be lighter.  I will have to have them un-mounted and weighed to know for sure.

Not sure what the price would be.  I would like to trade straight up for Federals but I don't know if the BFG's are worth that?  I need to ask around to see what they are worth before getting back to you on price.

I will let you know when I get more info.

Check out the threads about tires. The Federal tires look to be what INEX is going to require. Break in procedure usually consists of some laps at slower speeds and then a few laps at racing speeds. Cool off time in between. Some of us use the term" scrubbing" or "running the tires in".  Has been a few responses as to how to do how to do it. Depending on where you race, or who you talk to, there are pro's and con's to both the Federals and the BFG's.

No worries  :) I bought a set of Federals after I hadn't heard from you for a couple days, I had no choice lol I was on wear bars. Shipping would have killed us on the price anyway lol
