Experience with Federal Tires on Asphalt

What experience have you had with the new tires? What tire pressures are you running? What things have you noticed about them?

I haven’t run them yet but my teammate did and he has nothing but positive things to say. The wear looks really good and they do NOT chunk out like some of the BFG did. He said he ran the same air pressure to start but may try less by a pound over the BFG’s. He did pick up a .10 on the watch but the track changes .50 on any given weekend. I will ask more when I talk to him. I have mine and can’t wait to get home from this trip and get them mounted up. Oh, one more thing he said that the really need at least a couple of heat cycles for break in. Hope this all helps.

yes, because we really didn' have anything to go off of. He does all my set-ups as well so I'm sure we will make some changes. With that said we don't run the same set-up be cause of the way we drive and the other million reasons. I will keep you posted on what I do to my car as soon as I get home and on the track.

Dave is hopefully going to be testing his new Federal  (cut) tires tonight.
Look forward to his report on them.

Any news from Dave on the new tires?  Picking mine new cut and uncut (for wet weather) sets up on Sunday, and racing with them for the first time at the end of the month.  Anyone else want to share facts on what differences you've found?

We tested the tires on Wednesday and ran them in.  The track is a 1/5 mile paved with concrete corners.  It was about 50 degrees with no sun.  Also legends have not been at this track for 3 years.  With that said I 1st run was LOOSE off, but the track is loose off were the concrete goes back to pavement.  I could just light the tires off and burn them down the short straights.  BUT, after  the 3rd run , about 34 to 40 laps, the tires were good and I was running very very good times, compared to the books from the last legends race there.  I hope that with a bit more time on the tires and warmer weather Sat. I can get a few more ticks off the time.  I still have to be easy on the gas off, but i am being told that is the way track is.  The was  great in and stable, but a hair tight rolling in the middle. The car does rotate if i just give a bit of power.  So, I am not going to do anything to the car at this time, we will see Sat.

After race day I will report again, but as off now I like the feel of the new tires..

LOL, OK I the cara was OK early on then got looser as it cooled down.  So I took a big swing at it and put a full turn in the left rear.  The car was great during the main until about 4 to go the got TIGHT, REAL TIGHT.  I was about to still pull off the win.  Now were the tire just getting fully "in" now?  I have not put the car on the scales to see where its at.  I did talk to a guy who  prac. at another track and were running 15.9-16.0s on BFGs and "said" that he turn a 15.79 on the new tire..SO I still dont know.

I like the feel of them

A win is always good news! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Doesn't sound like much time lost on those paved tracks.
I already said that I think they look like a good pavement tire. Worried more about the guys that may have to run them on dirt. There is not much for tread.
Still waiting for real results from the dirt folks.
