Running national qualifer with no Inex license?
« on: April 30, 2013, 12:51:50 pm »
I was just curious how drivers running in the Fast Midwest series have been able to race for a month now and still have no record of even applying for an Inex license?  They were even able to race up front in the National qualifier this past weekend without one?  Could someone explain to me how this is allowed; did I waste my money purchasing a license because it doesn't seem like you really need one.

Also, per Fast Midwest's webpage, you are allowed to race without  a license but you will not receive a payout.  When Columbus paid the promoter for the cars without a license, did the money get redistributed to the other drivers?  It didn't seem like my payout went up any... ???

I'm new to this and heard rumors in the pits about un-licensed drivers and it just rubbed me the wrong way because I spent the money to do things the right way.  After a few calls to Inex, the rumors were confirmed.

Am I just a naive newbie by actually thinking we needed to buy the license?

No, you did what you were supposed to.
I can't answer for your series, but we're not allowed on the track  in the WLRDS without a license

The rule book is pretty clear on this topic.  What did the calls to INEX yield?

This happens alot of places because with low car counts, its difficult to tell people they can't race without buying a $150 INEX license.

I agree its BS for those that buy one, but it is what it is.  If USLC/INEX allows it  or turns a blind eye, what can you do besides roll the dice and not buy one the next year?

Why don't you talk to the people who run the series and ask them the same questions?

Greg,

Settle down. We have a few members here that run the Fast Midwest Series.
The question, from a new person to the series and to legends racing in general, was simply asking why is this?
Attack whomever you wish via personal messages, emails, at a bar, whatever. I don't care! Just isn't going to happen on this form.
The better approach would have been to explain what the policy or accepted practices for the series are.

If you want an uninvolved party to check on license numbers, I can do that for you.
Otherwise, I think I'll take a popcorn break on this one

sorry steve:
i thought the point was to respond to posts from other members.
i guess making unfounded statements or outright lies is ok.
i understand why i've never bothered to join one of these until now.

let me be clear then.
the FAST midwest web page does not state that it is ok to run races without an inex license.
rule #2  states that every driver must have one.
rule #3  states that you will not recieve a payout if you do not have one.
which should motivate the non-member to get one.
it does not state that anyone else gets a percentage of the non-members payout.
that money goes into the trophy fund for the end of the year.
non-members do not get trophies at the banquet either.

no one racing with the FAST series gets away with numorous races as a non-member
but we do not check for inex licenses at the track either.
i hope those who "stir the pot",  find their soup sour.

Thank You for being so polite as to post the policies for the FAST Series.

"but we do not check for inex licenses at the track either."

That's an interesting policy. I can certainly see the members confusion.

Since we all know that inex cards have not gone out yet, and there is limited, at best, internet access at the track, how does one find out on race day?
Moreover how does anyone know for sure that inex has not posted the numbers for members who just sent in their checks and forms.  I wonder if more research should have been done before this thread was started?

The INEX Member is new to the FAST Series and was curious about things he had heard about non-members participating in a FAST Series National Qualifying Race. That is how the thread got started.

From what I understand of the actual situation, only 3 racers are suspect as to licensing.

For those interested in the FAST Midwest Series rules, here is what is posted on their site:

RULES

TO PARTICIPATE IN A  F.A.S.T. SERIES RACE.  DRIVERS MUST:

    1. BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD OR HAVE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN  PRESENT
     2. HAVE A 2013 INEX LICENSE  --->WE MUST HAVE THIS FOR EVERY DRIVER<--
     3.  IF A DRIVER DOES NOT HAVE AN INEX MEMBERSHIP, THAT DRIVER IS NOT ELLIGIBLE FOR A PAYOUT FROM THAT RACE.
INEX MEMBERSHIP FORMS AND CHECKS SHALL BE SENT TO INEX BY THE DRIVER.
     4.  ALL MINOR
DRIVERS MUST HAVE AN ADULT CREW CHIEF OR PARENT PRESENT AT    EVERY DRIVERS MEETING OR ONE ON ONE DISCUSSION WITH THE RACE DIRECTOR.
     5. CONCERNS OR COMPLAINTS CAN BE HEARD THROUGHT THE RACE DIRECTOR, TECH INSPECTOR, OR THE TRACK OWNER. HOWEVER; NONE SHALL BE HEARD ANONYMOUSLY.
     6.  OBEY THE RULES SET FORTH BY THE TRACK THE SERIES IS RACING AT.

The underlined portion of my post is highlighted in yellow on their site. I am not suggesting that the FAST Midwest Series ia  bad series to race. Just pointing out that perhaps a bit of tweaking in the enforcement of rules may be necessary.

Do the rules seem clear to you Steve?  I posed the same question to the inex director.

Many thanks for posting that by the way.

Greg,

Clear as mud.
TO PARTICIPATE IN A  F.A.S.T. SERIES RACE.  DRIVERS MUST:
Rule #2.) HAVE A 2013 INEX LICENSE  --->WE MUST HAVE THIS FOR EVERY DRIVER<--

I understand the track and promoter(s) wanting to build car counts. Therefore I understand why non-members would not get a payout but be allowed to race. I question why at a National Qualifying Race, non-members would be allowed to race?

Any suggestions on tweaking the enforcement at the track?  One can only take a person at their word.  Should We turn drivers away who can not prove they've mailed their memberships in?
Without cards in hand, how do you know weather a driver does or doesn't? Qualifyer or not.   It was covered in the drivers meeting that day.  That you must have one in file or mailed in.  To date I know for sure of only one driver who had not have either.  That came to light a few days later.

Opinions please
