Coils

Is there any advantage to using the red inex dyna coils over the Yamaha coils? I use the rectangle black box.

I may be wrong, but I think you can use red coils only with the red box.
I think you can use red coils with the black box, but not black coils with the red box.
I could be completely wrong though...
Hopefully someone else will chime in here for you

Better to be hated for who you are, Than to be loved for who you are not.

Jim,  Just to make this even more confusing. I have the red box with black coils. Seems to run just fine.

I have a problem were my engine is off, been told its probably a coil going down as it only does it under load, on tick over its fine, I can get the Yamaha coils here for peanuts but the dyna coils are around £140 I just wondered if they worth the extra cost

I have seen several red box cars with the black coils, not sure how long or the long term success of this is.  I had a customer run the red coils with the black box and he claimed it was terrible.

I thought the dynatech coils were made to run with a standard ignition? I had numerous black boxes and coils with the car bug they all look used so don't really wanna start swapping to those to try and cure the problem, as far as I know they could all be rubbish. I think I might try some standard coils first as that would be the cheapest option just to see if the red ones I have are faulty and go from there to start

You can test the red coils for resistance with an ohm meter, not saying they are failing under heat. It would tell you if there is an obvious open or short in the coil.

How do I check them Dennis? I have an ohm meter so that's some thing I could do
