How may feet of oil line necessary?
« on: January 06, 2013, 09:09:58 pm »
Gotta place an order tomorrow... I am replacing the spin on oil filter on the back of my motor with a remote oil filter and a cooler up front.  How many feet of oil line should I buy?  I roughed it out and it seemed like 6 feet might just do it, but may be a little short..  How many feet are needed to plumb this?   At 6-7 bucks per foot, just hate to us more than I really need.

Depends on where the remote filter is installed, what size oil cooler, single or dual pass...If 6 feet seemed a little short, go with at least 7. Better to have a few extra inches than have to throw away a few feet because you ran short

I typically tell a racer to order ten feet, I suggest the  braided polyester, nylon or nomex light weight hose, it so easy to work with and is really durable.

Nate,

Got to agree. 8 - 10 feet. Remember the old addage; Measure twice, cut once. Better to have an extra foot or two than to come up short. Once all is routed and secured, you may find yourself short if you go the bare minimum.

do not precut, do it to the component... one at a time, will save on hose....10 feet in my cars.. doesn't hurt to have extra for the season..

We lined both of our cars with AN8 lines

8an is what you want, Summit nylon braided line is a good line and priced right for the use. The Summit fittings work well and are a good buy.
