Legends Information
« on: August 08, 2012, 02:14:58 am »
I've been running karts for a few years now, but plan on moving to legend cars in the near future. I have a few questions about them. I'm sure there are many other threads asking the same question also.

I'm from North Carolina, and I'm wanting to buy a good used car.
1. What are things to look for when buying a car?
2. Whats the best engine?
3. What model is the best?
4. What all do I need on a typical legends race day.

Thanks For Your Help

hey and welcome to the forum......theres alot of  great info and great people on here to help you out.....i dont think there is a best model........just depends on your taste whether you like a coupe or sedan....the bubble top coupes are said to have less head room.....but its really a matter of preference...just be sure not to get anything to out of date.........bee sure it has a vin plate.get the number and call Lisa Will at 600 racing and she can tell you the info ( year and number or owners)on whatever  car your looking at....it should be easy to find a car in your area.....have you looked at racing junk?   depends on what you want to spend as well.................as far as engine  i have an open fj1200........i dont want to send it off when it need repair..but you are alot closer than me..so you may want a sealed engine.....you should go to the track you are planning on running.you might find a car forsale there already set up for that track.....good luck and let us know what you find.....Doug #101

Thanks Doug.

Yes, I've been looking on racing junk and I plan on going to southern national and talk to some of the guys in the pits that run legends.

As far as tires how many races can I get out of per set? I know it depends on the track, but whats an estimate number of races. By the way I plan on running at Southern National and coastal plains mainly.

To get started what all will I need to get. As far as setup tools and things I'll need on raceday. Is there any way I'll be able to use my kart scales to weigh out the legend car also.

I know there are alot of questions but I'm just trying to get things figured out.

Thanks

Not too many specialty tools needed for raceday.
I always have my caster camber gauge, toe plates, and carb sync with me (carb sync is normally to help out other guys though).
As long as your kart scales can handle the weight, use them. Car without driver is around 1100 lbs.
Have to have a quick jack.
I have everything I need to completely disassemble and re-assemble the car and engine in a 2 drawer plastic toolbox.

Hey MK,

I am in Raleigh NC and just started in Legends this year and running at Wake County and South Side in Va. (Southern National while close is just a bit to unforgiving to a rookie like me.) I had many of the same questions you had and with the help of this forum and other racers I have learned quite a bit. If you are nearby you are welcome to stop by my garage and check out the car, equipment, and talk setups etc... I'd be glad tell you what I know. FYI,  Southern National is cancelled this weekend and will not have Legends next weekend due to the  INEX Regional at South Boston (worth going to if you have the chance).

"South Boston (worth going to if you have the chance)" and you think Southern National is unforgiving.

What I was saying is that the Inex Regional at SoBo is worth going to if he wanted to talk to some drivers as it will be a big field of good drivers. Both tracks are tough from what I have heard. I plan to run SouthSide that Friday, and letting a more experienced driver I know tell me if I am ready for SoBo on Saturday.

SoBo is much more forgiving them Southern National. Fast yes, but it isn't as "self cleaning" as SN. SN is similar to Dover, in that if something happens, all the cars slide to the bottom. SoBo is a great Legends track.
