Auto Meter Tach Shows half the actual RPMs
« on: June 22, 2009, 12:27:28 pm »
Why would my Auto Meter show only half the actual RPMs?  I have both the wire loops cut and the tach input connected to the wire harness block on the inside firewall......any help?

Batz,
I also have an Autometer Tach that only reads half the RPM's.  I have the loops cut as well and wired correctly.  I contacted Autometer tech department.  They told me that I had to have the tach recalibrated to work with the pulse rate of the Yamaha ignition system.  Basically, we have purchased automotive callibrated tach's and connected them to a motorcylce engine.  They did tell me that it was no big deal to recalibrate, just would be tied up for a month or so.  I decided to wait until the season is over and then send it in.  You can contact them through their website if you need to.

I'm running the red ignition system.....   there must be another way to connect the tach....I'm thinkin the tach is only reading one coil.

Im running the red ignition myself.  If you find another way to hook it up that works, be sure to post how you did it.

I just hooked mine up to the tach wire from the box and it worked fine. I will take a look and see if I can find something out

I contacted Autometer and was told that they cant recalibrate an automotive tach.  You have to get a motorcycle tach for it to work correctly.  Looks like I will be getting a tach from my local Legends dealer.

There is no such thing as a local Legends dealer in Wisconsin Jeff, you'll have to go to another state
