Door template???
« on: March 13, 2009, 10:43:23 am »
So here I am, with this new body...wondering "hmmm, whats the best way to make sure I cut the doors right?" Then I thought I better ask the great throbbing brain on legendsracer.com! Is there a template or something???

Are the old doors too busted up to use as a template??   I've often wondered how a guy would cut them if you had to replace the body.

Well...funny story. I went to pick up a 34 Ford body and got a 34 Chevy body with a 34 Ford front end...so, with no  "B" pillar on the Chevy, I can't just lay my old doors over and trace.

Can you mount the body first with a few rivets, then use the frame of the door to mark it from the inside?  I bought a used car, so have not had to go down this road yet.

That was what I was thinking...was just hoping somone had a magical template or pattern...dont want to chop it up too bad! Just got off the phone with 600, thats what they said to do, just put it on and take the die-grinder to it...Ida thunk they would have made a paper template say, 15 years or so ago...I'd pay for one...hmmmm maybe I'll get into the "making paper door templates" business!

See, but if I did that, and then I messed something up, I'd have someone to blame!!! I'll just do it the old fashioned way, that way if it gets jacked up,  I have no-one to blame but myself...thanks for the offer

You would think they could/should inscribe some kind of door lines right into the mold.  It would sure make it easier.

Racecar spelled backwards is racecar. Racecar upside down is expensive.
