these cars have too much power for the tires, at least on the small paved ovals I run.  I found no real diff. with race gas vs pump gas, but the price.  I just run 94.  The way 600 is leaning we all will be on pump gas.  Winter Nats. and Winter Heat HAD to run pump gas from the local Shell station..

I run premium pump gas (93 octane??) in mine.  I think that is what most of our guys are running.  I had one of our guys tell me that they did some work on a dyno and said there is no difference between the pump gas and the racing fuels.  Don't really know if it is true or not, but I'm not wasting my money.  I hope INEX goes the pump gas route and save lots of guys some money.

My concerns with the pump gas is the ethanol, and the lack of good lubrication, thus the upper end lube additive.

Here is an old thread for ya:

http://www.legendsracer.com/index.php?topic=5.0

This from the 600 Racing site about fuel for Spring Fling:

Shell 93 from the Shell Station at the intersection of Highway 29 and Hudspeth Road, near the speedway, will be the mandatory fuel for Spring Fling.

Found this tech tip on fuel awhile back.

 "Fuel For Legends Cars:
Because race fuel has a slow burn rate, mix race fuel with 93 octane pump gas. This speeds up the burn rate and picks up horsepower and torque all the way up the power band."

My thoughts are that there will be a move towards the 93 octane pump gas.

Which would make everyone who buys their gas in the  "ethanol" counties illegal. INEX Rule states "The only oxygenates permitted are MTBE and ethanol alcohol at a maximum amount of 4% by volume."  Our pump gas has 10% ethanol, with the push by the government to make it 15%...

I would think that 600 would rewrite the fuel rule when they change it to 93, 94 or whatever...

Wouldn't it be hard to figure out if it is 93-94 octane? I don't know I'm just asking. I think running pump gas is a good thing as far keeping the cost down. Just don't know how you would police the whole thing.

They would have to have multiple rules depending on the ethanol mandates per region, multiple different rules just in the State of Wisconsin...or designate where gas must be purchased at every  single event...I just don't see them getting that involved in it when, as stated above, most people don't think it makes a difference. I use the race fuel mainly because of the lead in it, and because it dilutes the ethanol content....not to mention, when gas was $4.80/gallon last year, race gas was still only $5.67...and it smells yummy!

INEX reserves the right to require all cars use the same brand and designated grades of gasoline in a given event.

Specific Gravity - The specific gravity must read from .710 to .770 at 60 degrees Fahrenheit, factored by a specific gravity temperature chart.

I use 100LL from the airport. LL means low lead and does have some lead in it. One thing I like about this fuel is does not varnish if left in the tank or carbs for a while. It is a little exspensive but not to bad. I had it check a long time ago and it passed. I have used pump gas also but we really have no tech of any kind so it is a run what you brung event.

I was told by my engine builder not to use pump gas because it tends to cause a lot of carbon deposits in the engine.   Anything with Ethanol in it will casue even more deposits.  Jim, we dont have a mandatory ethanol blend law yet so you can still find premium without it.  I dont run pump gas but at the very least I would run 110 race gas.

I was told by my builder not to run race fuel, or to at least mix it with pump gas due to the residue left in the motor after running race gas.  He stated that the internals will show signs of rust in as little as a week….I dont know I just drive it!!
