I scale without the driver. It is hard to read them and be in the car. ;D
I have done it with me in the car before but there is no need if you get the numbers right. Make sure the car is full of fuel and tire pressures are set where you are going to race at.

On my previous car I would put the scale readout on a chair or something so I could see it from inside of the car.  I usually keep notes on with and without driver.

We do it with me in the seat, with the light weight of the car, and the heavy weight of me...a couple pounds on one side can make a big difference

It was kind of a joke. If your going to scale the car after Thanksgiving dinner then you better get in. If your maintaining your girlish figure than you will be OK. If anything on the car is changed then it is a good idea to scale it and that includes you. Can we race yet......dang we got 10" of snow again.

We definitely can't race here yet.  Been way too cold and still have piles of snow everywhere.  It sounds like the pits at our track is pretty full of snow.  I hope the snow is gone and the track is ready for our test & tune.  I really need a racing fix - NASCAR on tv helps a little bit but doesn't take care of my withdrawals.

I thought the new rules this year have a cross weight limit with driver.  If that's the case, I'd think you will have to weigh the car with the driver in.

If it isn't fun, why are you doing it?

Mike is correct.

73. WEIGHT: The minimum car weight is 1100 pounds.
The percent of weight from front to rear will be no more
to the rear than 52.0%. The weight percentage from left to
right will be no more to the left than 52.0% with the driver as raced.
The minimum weight of the car with the driver
is 1300 pounds. Competitors are not permitted to add fuel
after an event to meet minimum weight.

Don't forget this one:

Mounting of the Seat in a Legends Car - The seat may be
moved within the driver’s compartment without moving or
changing existing bars in the frame. The centerline of the seat
must be 10” from the left side of the driver’s compartment
roll cage. The seat may be mounted directly to the floorpan.
When mounting the seat forward, use a flat piece of steel or
aluminum behind the seat (don’t just use bolts in tubing).
The use of wood as supports or mounting brackets is not
permitted. The presiding tech inspector shall have final
approval of the mounting of the seat. Carriage bolts are not
allowed for seat mounting. Hardware used to mount seat
must be a minimum of grade 5 bolts.

You can use sand bags, weights (come on! We don't really use them anyway. :) ), a friend, whatever... to approximate the wieght.

Their is NO crossweight rule.  The only change is that the left side weight is with the driver in the car.  The way the rules are written the rear weight is still without the driver.

Zeke, I scale the car without me in the car.  I then get in the car and check to make sure my left side is good.  I will help you out with that, you can bring your car over and I will scale it for you.

What I have discovered it that each chassis type reacts differently to the driver being added.  In the 4 sedans I had on my scales the croos weight went up when the driver was added.  The coupes went down and my new bubble top coupe was nto affected at all.  Again this is cross not the new 52% left side rule.  I do want to test the left side part out too.  My suggestion is do both.  See how the driver affects the car when he gets in it.

I race my car with the driver so I set it up with a driver. Do what ever works for you.

I was told this by an older, more experienced racer when I was getting into the Legends series. It works and makes sense to me.

Once you figure out the correlation between having the driver in the car vs out you can setup the car without a driver.  I always scaled with weight in the seat equivalent to my weight when I scaled my late model but I like not having to lug the 220lbs of lead in and out of the seat now.
