idle speed

Mt engine either idles too low, at start up or really high, after a few laps.Could this be an air leak, causing a lean condition. I'm not even sure how to adjust the idle on these carbs yet.
Any help on where to start with this problem would be great.
Thanks Doug

Hey Doug,

Check to make sure that the carbs are tight to the motor.  Those boots can leak and casue this condition.  The idle can be set in two ways.  First and easiest is the ide adjustment screw which for some reason is at the back of these carbs.  The other is the low speed mixture screw which is on the top of each carb.  This should be backed out about 2.5 turns as a starting point.  The other thing is to do is visually inspect that the carbs or close to being in sync.  pull the air filters off and open the butterfly by hand.  You should see all 4 start to move at the same time with the same amount of gap.  usually when they are a little out the outters will move later than the inner 2.  You are always welcome to bring the car over and we can work on it.

There is a thumb screw on the bottom of the carbs it's a gold wheel,  I believe clockwise raises the idle and counter clockwise lowers the idle, you can take the carbs off to get oriented as to where the thumbscrew is , just go about a 1/8 turn at a time.
