valve cover gaskets
« on: June 12, 2008, 11:27:51 am »
I'm leaking some oil from the top rear of the motor onto the header pipe. There is quite a bit of smoke after the feature race(20 laps). Our local dealer doesn't have this part, should I just go to a Yamaha dealer for this gasket?
Thanks Doug

Yes, your local Yamaha dealer will be able to get it.  More than likely they will have to order it so be prepaired to wait a couple of days.  For now I would take the cover off clean the gasket surface with carb or brake cleaner.  Next put a little black Permatex liquid gasket on the entire gasket surface and put your valve cover back on.  Only snug up the screws then wait an hour before you fully tighten the screws.  You should be able to seal it up with no leakage that way.

Racecar spelled backwards is racecar. Racecar upside down is expensive.

Doug,

Be ready to open your wallet good and wide. This is not a cheap gasket. Just didn't want your chin to drop like mine did............. :o
