I have called and left a message and sent an E-mail with no response.  The thing is that most 1200s will pump under the rule after a few races.  I know of 1200s that won that were pumped 140 to 160 but, I have new motor and I am right at the 180 number.  I have not made up my mind of what to do.  I will be racing this week, after that ???

Information from Hank Scott, not me. My builder confirmed the same, that it will change the torque curve, and actually be better in the high end of the rev spectrum, which won't change much because of the rev-limiters...biggest detriment would be to the road racers who use the low end-torque, followed by asphalt guys...on dirt we're off the gas less, so the change wont affect performance much after you have the modifications done.  For those of you with a problem with me, dont worry, these aren't my words. To the rest of you, good luck on the 2008 season. :

"at 165, the loss
for example over a std legal HSR 1200 was

Peak 9000 rpm 146.6
Max torque at 7100 rpm of 92.96 Pounds, HP at 7100 125.7

After cams changed and 165 across the board

Peak at 9000 RPM 140.5
Max torque at 7800 85.46 pds at 126.9
For example where it used to make 92.96 pds of torque at 7100,
it nows makes 84.69 pds of torque and 114.4 HP a loss of 11 HP
and almost 8 foot pds of torque. This mtr makes about the same as the
best sealed engine I have dynoed as far as peak now, but as far as
Torque goes, they are in the 89 to 90 pd range. If they wanted to be
fair, they should have made it 170 to 175.

You have lost a huge amount of Torque, and now will have to turn you
mtr more to get off the corner. They intented to get you and have. 600
Racing, well done! mission accomplised"

On dirt this will hopefully not be a big disadvantage with the lack of traction, but I might skip the pavement races for now.   Hope to have my motor running in the next week or so to see where I stand.

Maybe this will make me / pavement guys go faster.  Where I race we run on small tracks and I come off the turns loose, just spinning the tires. This may help get hooked up with the drop in tq...?

From Hank:
"ok my brothers of 1200s. got the motor off dyno, and checked the cam
numbers that ended up giving me 165 on the nose. Keep in mind this
engine is fresh, so it's really sealed up good. before you go moving
your cams, be sure to check it first, you may not have to move them.
this engine here in 8 or 10 races may get to move the cam back up a
little.

I normally close my intake at 44 to 45, now I have to close it at
55, thats a 14 degree retard from stock, and 9 more degrees from what I
use to be able to run
The Intake is now> 6 ATDC 55 ABC
The Exhaust is now> 40 BBC 12 ATC

What I use to run 6 BTC 45 ABC on - in
44 BBC 7 ATC on - ex"

This could really hurt Legends and all 600 racing if the wrong person comes in but it could be the best thing that has happend also. I guess time will tell. I will say this that Humpy has put alot of money into this program and there is little return as far as dollars go. Have great long weekend.

I hope that Marcus Smith will be a little more compassionate to the plight of us little guys.
Should be interesting to see what direction things go.

If you want to stay current on what is going on at 600 with the 1200 rule change or you are a 1200 owner, join the LCAR Racing group.
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/LCarRacing/join

To get the motor legal with the cams in the right place, you need to change pistons and run 9:1 compression, per Hank Scott.
One has been built.

I dont know what is all in my 1200 engine but I pumped mine and it was legal at 163.  I was told it has 3 races since the rebuild and it makes plenty of power.  I still havent taken the valve cover off to see if it has the slotted cam gear.

I have a tired one that wouldn't pump over 125 psi.
If it doesn't have slotted gears, they make a big difference in power.  A fresh built 1200 will pump in the 170's.
If this compression rule doesn't eliminate a lot of 1200's, they will have to outlaw them to sell 1250's. There are
still a lot of 1200's out there, more than 1250's from what I have seen. That means if all 1200's became illegal, the 1250's sales would double.

I had a fresh  "built" 1200 that pumped 180, 179, 180, 178 hot. no races on it , just some prac time.

I dont care about the new rule, on the small tracks we race on the cars will hook out of the turn with a bit less HP.  We have guys that win with motors that pump 145, 123, 155, 150 and he just won.  Its more than who has the most HP. Our group is about 50% open motors and most would say that if the 1200 go away they will be done.  So, how does the sport grow if at the local level there is no races due to low car counts? Local tracks will not have races for long with 10 or less cars a race.  I think the local tracks here need to get about 16 plus cars to pay our payout and make a buck or two.

I hear you. I have 2 fresh HSR motors and 4 fresh KJR.

I told our promoter with $4 /gallon gas I didn't need another reason to quit. I haven't missed a race in 3 years and I have missed 5 this year already.
