Hi Corey,

I think your costs will be more on paved tracks than dirt. You will use up more tires for sure.
If you run the series at Atlanta (Summer shootout, etc...), plan on spending a lot more. Those boys (and girls) are pretty serious about their racing!
Do a search of racing costs. There are some good thoughts on the costs of racing.

Asphalt is definitely more money. If you want to be competitive, you will be putting new tires on AT LEAST every 3 races.

Tow money (depends on location)
Tires- ~$650/3 races
Gas- normally 1.5-2 gallons per raceday (pump gas ~ $2.50 or MS 98 at atlanta ~$12 per gallon)
Entry- ~ $25 per person

Then you have other things that are harder to calculate (damage, oil changes, etc)

Why are you paying so much for tires? Lambert tires are as good as anyone and they are $550. Farbo tires took several poles at the Shootout and he is $500, he is in Anderson, SC.

The only difference for you for dirt will be engine and tires.

Engine 25 races, top end rebuild, 25 more. Now the debate begins, some say full rebuild and repeat. Others trade the core in ($800) and buy a new one. Supposedly rebuilt motors cant hang with motors on their first cycle. This is asphalt were power is more important than dirt.

Tires $550 x 3, the more you cut the tires, they will be faster. A set of tires cut to last 1 race will be almost 2 tenths faster than tires cut to last 3 weeks. Welcome to the land of the rich daddy's who's kid is destine to be the next Jeff Gordon.

Talk to Dennis Lambert, Ryan Farbo, or Devo for tires.

By the way they do run dirt at Rockfish and Fayetteville, but that's near the coast.

That was supposed to be $550. My bad lol.

Welcome to the land of the rich daddy's who's kid is destine to be the next Jeff Gordon.

Absolutely love this quote, it made me chuckle. In a sense its is a fair statement unfortunately.

I'm a budget racer up in the northeast where everything is asphalt. There's a lot of money being spent up here in this series. I have a few friends that are pretty hardcore to run up front, I often buy their tires that are used or spares that are year old rubber that they don't want. Tires harden with age.

The guys that are running up front are cutting them to last 2 or 3 races before they are illegal. Most guys are buying new engines over rebuilds. That's a hole other can of worms.

A combination of talent and $$$/good equipment will determine how well you will do but that's nearly the case in racing period.

If you are just getting into this don't worry about cut tires or strong engines, these cars are a handful. Learn the car first, get seat time and improve from there. IMO it doesn't hurt to learn in a used car with a stock bike motor and old tires.

     Best of luck!
