Clutch Hook Up
« on: March 07, 2014, 02:37:13 am »
I am completely new to this series and I am putting a new sealed engine in a roller chassis I bought. Does someone mind explaining how to hook up the clutch and shift linkage to the engine. Pictures would help too. Thanks

Welcome to Legends! There is a little info about the shifter linkage if you search for it. I dont have instructions for you but I can offer a little advice. As far as the shifter goes, make sure that the shifter arm has a good amount of clearance between it and the coupler for the driveshaft when you are shifting gears. I have a 1200 so the linkage is a little different. Its a little bit of a goofy setup, IMO.

As far as the clutch, that attaches to a plate that attaches to the engine. Make sure you use locktight on the three bolts that secure the clutch to the plate. They have a tendancy to back off.

Im sure others will chime in on this. Best of luck!

Eric

Where are you located? Might be good to find someone. Lose you that give you hand.

If you go to the USLC website, there is a good exploded view of the clutch that will be very helpful in the "Online Catalogue" tab

I'll email you what I have.

Yes Steve I would love to see those pictures if you could send them to me. Especially one of this area of the engine I just really need a visual of it all hooked up.

   Thanks,  Andrew

You need to take the sprocket off and put on the driveshaft adapter. Also need the clutch slave cylinder.
Missing a bunch of stuff, unless you just didn't get around to that yet...

Yeah I saw them Steve thank you. In terms of the picture I posted earlier I feel like that is like the mystery spot. The USLC schematics don't really show that area of the engine with the slave cylinder and the sprocket.

Just saw your pic. Sprocket gets replaced with an adapter to hook the driveshaft to. Also, the shifter lever gets shortened. Think I have a pic of one. I'll email that to you as well.

There is a bracket you need for the slave I believe, the slave cylinder, the driveshaft adapter, and more.
Better call your dealer. When you have all the right parts, you will be able to see it much more clearly

Pic of shift lever sent to your email.
As Jim said; there is a bracket and adaptor that make up the rest of the shift linkage and driveshaft hook up.
I am sure the dealers have the parts. They are also available on eBay.

If you take a look at the 12th item down on this page you will see the plate everyone is talking about and the clutch master cylinder.

http://www.andrewsmotorsports.com/forsale.htm

As shown, the left side of the plate, the side with the larger hole is the side that the master cyclinder bolts to in a triangular pattern. The smaller hole on the right side slides over the shifter shaft. Its much easier to see how it mounts up once you have it in hand. First things first, remove that chain gear off the motor, Its a 36mm. If you dont have that size of socket go and get a craftsman brand. Its only one of the few that fit inside the coupler you will need to install. Many of the parts you need are on that website, but some of the guys on here will have them as well.
