So am I understanding this correctly that a bolt on system like what some of you have made is illegal for those of us racing elsewhere?

No.
To race at Beaver Dam, you must have some type of steel fuel cell protector.
I have heard or seen nothing stating that it would make the car illegal anywhere else.

The point of making mine bolt on is for all the weight conscious people who would not want it on their car when I sell it.

Thanks Jim, so you you run that setup everywhere else then as well?

I may have to construct something like this someday.

It's a new rule that was implemented after the 2013 Dirt Nationals fire. We're still snow covered, there's been no racing in the Midwest yet

Just a local track thing as far as I am aware.

I have a steel canisterd fuel cells for my cars.

Mark and Scott R. had discussions about it. No idea if it is technically INEX legal, but they know it is in the Beaver Dam rulebook, Beaver Dam is INEX sanctioned, thus...? Make your own conclusions.
Another reason mine will be clamped on

So if you have the steel fuel cell you would be OK? I saw the crash in question and anything that we can do make these cars safer is always a +++++

Picture below is what was left the Legend car that started on fire after fuel cell was punctured during 2013 Dirt Nationals this past fall at Beaver Dam.  And yes, that is Scott Reinhardt from USLC in foreground... :o   This is why I installed the added protector plate on my car.

I don't believe chassis make is going to save anyone.  More visual proof of that below of a sedan chassis that was in same accident.  Fuel cell almost speared on this car also.

Just finished up the guard for my dad's car. 100% bolt on to the chassis.

Test fit before I had the collars to weld on and bolt holes to attach the channel to the plate:

Lower collars that my dad picked up somewhere:

Finished assembly:

I also attached a quick cad sketch of the pieces as I made them to fit my dad's car.  It should give you a base point to start from if you need one.  Some of the dimensions will more than likely need to be tweaked to fit the items you use in your build.

Silly Tool Maker wants to make race car parts better, stronger, CHEAPER (in kit form) than the OEM! ( now he's trying to be a fabricator too! )
