Paint.
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:40:29 pm »
For all you brave souls that paint your own cars, what brand of paint did you use?

Any tips on spraying and prep work?  While I've sprayed the odd thing here and there, I'm no expert.  I could probably use some good tips.

Thanks,
Mike

Block sand the car to scuff up the gel coat. A 220 grit sand paper will work well for this.   Then rub down the entire body with denatured alcohol. This will remove any oils and dust.  Then spray on one coat of primer, 2 coats of paint or more and a clear coat if you dont want to wax to get the shine.

Is a great site to get you up to date with the best ways to apply the paint, and what brands work well with fiberglass.   Fiberglass is a very flexible material. Standard automotive paint is formulated for a more ridged surface. It will get little cracks all over it, over time.
