It was covered in oil from the breather. I was told to drain a little out so I drained it from window 3/4 full to 1/2 with car not running. Then I ran 8 lap heat no oil light on but still pumped oil out breather. I then left oil level the same for 40 lap main oil light was coming on but not solid and still pumped about same amount of oil. Car was then cooled down and pushed in the trailer when we started car next day it had the knock. Car seemed to run normal all night. We run a 3/8 asphalt oval in washington state

grape thanks for your help the other nite, engine ran much better...when I look at the oil pan a simple oil trap to hold half the oil would work...putting a recovery tank to put the oil back to the pan is not a fix,  but it keeps the oil in the system..

This may not not be the problem but did you bleed the air out of the system when you changed the oil?
