I agree with Jim, I have tried a couple of different types of oil sprays but I also think it is best to run them dry.

I ran 2 sets of them last year and I was told to run them dry.......do not use any type of oil, but you must keep them clean especially on dirt.

Your nuts running foam filters on dirt without a little oil.  Dirt will go through the filter without oil. I learned this the hard way in my motocross days.   I would not have an issue with running them dry on a paved track though.

I assumed it was on asphalt.
I personally would not recommend running them on dirt, would run the K&N's, but other engine builders have other opinions

I would spray them with a little oil.  We came over from karting and didn't spray the filters and that required sooner rebuilds due to the fine sand going through them, that's a $500 rebuild vs a $3-4000 rebuild.

Wrong, wrong, wrong...

The UNI filters require oil on the exterior for proper filtering. They do not to be oiled internally, but they do need a film of oil kneaded into the foam on the outside.

UNI Filter Oil

If you have any further questions about these filters, that is all I personally use or recommend.

I'd listen to Randy before me on the foam filters, I've never used them.

since we are talking air filters, what does everyone recommend and why? The Foam or the K&N?

Sorry I run them dry on asphalt. I would probable do the oil on dirt.

You are not stopping the microscopic particles without oil.

Pop off you carbs and look at the bore at the throttle plate. If there is signs of dirt stuck to the bore, the filter is letting the smallest particle through.

I have to ask; Why would you not oil them?

We do no dirt racing and we oil all filters on my personal cars or customer cars. It does not need much, just a like coat on the outside surface. You might be surprised after you oil them how much dirt you get out when you wash them.
