Roll bar padding

Hello guys can you tell me with the new style roll bar padding does it have to cover the whole bar?  Ie it comes split in half can you face it where you want it and zip tie it in place or does it have to cover both sides of the tube?

Just the side of the bar that would/could come in contact with you helmet
