Shock Mounts
« on: November 26, 2012, 09:08:34 am »
I've been seeing people starting to run the shocks on the inside position. Is there a benefit to this? Is there a reason for it? Also have been hearing a few people talking about distressing a chassis. I didnt know they came stressed. Whats the deal with that? do i have to give it a pill or something haha. Thanks noob here.

Here is an old thread dealing with de-stressing the chassis.

Things have changed a bit since the original posting. There are quite a few that are doing this to older chassis now.

Shocks mounted inside or outside chassis...
Has to do with shock mounting angle and how the shock/ spring combination reacts. I'll leave that question to those that have tried both positions.

I run my shocks on the inside and have tried them on the outside but couldn't make it work. Not saying that it won't work just didn't for me and I didn't have the time to make it work. Most guys that I see on asphalt run on the inside.

Approx. 8% spring reduction by mounting the shock on the inside of the chassis. If you are running 10" springs I would be more concerned with the deflection (bowing) of the spring under compression.

This may be a stupid question, but im learning about these cars still, i see you say mount the shocks inside, right now my rear shocks is mounted to the outside on the rear, can you switch them to the inside on the rear? Is there any modifications i have to do, does it help the car if there mounted inside? Thanks

No modification necessary, can bolt them inside or outside depending on your needs

I've always run my rears on the outside and I also run 10" springs too. Never tried mounting to the inside but I believe Ethan has tried it before.
