1250 Open???

I trying to buy a legends car.  I have recently saw two ads for cars with 1250 open motors.  I thought that all 1250's were sealed motors bought directly from 600 racing.  Now, the cars could be advertised wrong and really be 1200 opens but what if they are 1250's that have had the seals removed. 

Can I visually tell they are a 1250 or a 1200?  Or would I have to open the motor to tell.

If they are 1250's can I call the engine shop at 600 racing and have them give me a history on the motor?  And I assume the only way to make a 1250 legal again would be to send it to 600 racing to be rebuilt.

I know these may be stupid questions but I want to know what I am getting into.  I already have one car I can't use without buying a VIN/ title and doing a bunch of updates.

They could be 1250 opens, but they aren't legal.
Call USLC and they will tell you the history on the motor if they have one.
Just call them with the serial number.
Engine size, at least on the 1200 is on the engine by the serial #, will say 1188Cm3

look on the cylinders under the exhaust. The size is stamped on there. It will either say 1098, 1188, 0r 1249. if it is either 1098 or 1188 it is an open motor. if it says 1249, it is only legal if sealed.

The 1098 is likely an FJ1100 engine bored out to a 1200.
