Adding a pic to my profile

Can someone tell me the max size a pic can be to add it to your profile. I am trying to add a .jpeg that is 2.77mb but I keep getting a file to big error. I checked the help section first...it wasn't much help.

Man I've been a member a grand total of 2 days and I'm already the squeaky wheel....sorry about that  ;D

For your avatar, it needs to be really small, not sure of the exact size though
