Oil temp gauge issue
« on: January 06, 2011, 08:13:59 pm »
Hi, Alright so i replaced my oil temp gauge with an afco one.  The fitting didn't fit into any of the ports under the headers or on the front of the motor.  I ordered the fittings from 600 racing next and got them today... they don't fit.  I plan on putting a T in the oil line next.  I read that the gauge needs to be well grounded.  What does this mean and how would i do it?

Thanks,
Dan

Just an update, i found an allen screw on the remote oil filter, took it out and screwed the probe in.  I just need to know how to connect the new probe to the wire.  Do i cut the old probe and just put a crimp connector on it and crew it on?

Thanks
Dan

Just ground it to the chassis.

I wasn't even aware that the probe didn't come with the tubing already attached. Wish I had an answer for you. Maybe Randy or Gimpster can answer that for you.
Sorry Dan!  :-[

well it did come with a probe but its not the 600 racing one so it won't fit anywhere, I got the 600 probe and just don't know how to attach it.  The gauge said it was a mechanical one but theres not tube its just a braided wire and after a little research the probe that 600 sent was for an electrical gauge so i'm assuming 600 only sells electrical gauges.

Wires do indicate an electrial gauge. You should be able to buy the appropriate mechanical gauge probe with the tubing attached. I don't think that you can cut the tube and replace just the probe. Don't know that for sure... But have never heard or seen anyone do it.
