Ilegal and After Market Parts
« on: August 12, 2010, 11:13:46 am »
Ilegal and After market parts: ARC and other company make some of the best and safest parts available
Aluminun flywheels, roller rockers, billet rods and pistons, header and air filters.  We have Outlaws and Bandits, in our area.We race both classes together for better car counts and it makes for some very good racing. My question is this!  Should the Qutlaw class be allowed to up grade their engines using after market parts as mentioned above?   Should age limit for outlaws be raised to more perpare these drivers to make the move to legends?   What is your opinion?

I personally would love to see the Outlaw class truely live up to its Outlaw name, and have a special series that is not a sealed engine.  Let those that are not concerned about the expense run a truely outlaw class, let them mod their engines and see what they can do....It would be a riot to watch!

I think there should be 2 classes of outlaws with different names, like bandits have the rookies. Have  no age break downs only skill. Then, once you get 2 seasons or 20 wins move up to outlaw 1 or a different name and see were the skilled are. Then have the outlaws have there own class were they can mess with there engines.

Thats my thoughts,

Tom, our site owner, owns ARC Racing. It would be fun to see a true "Outlaw" class!

The move to legends is expensive, We are loosing racers to other classes for that reason,it's a completly different car.  Bando9 your are exactly right about the skill level it requires to move up in any class.  The cost to up grade to a "True Outlaw" would far less than the move to Legends, and would provide another platform to improve a 12 to 14 year old racers skills.  If you read these post let us hear from you, it's fun.  T Worthy

You, like every other track in the country, are loosing racers due to the costs of racing, car count and the spectator count. The economy bites!!!  A "True Outlaw" class would put costs well above the cost of a stock Legends Car.

A stock Bando engine from USLC costs $1,595.00 (+ shipping) according to their site (may be outdated). Stock B&S engine puts out about 20 hp. What rules currently allow for upgrades put that figure closer to 30 hp.  Lets throw in another $1,000+ and machine work to up the horsepower. Tire upgrades and or prep (seriously put a crimp in the kart racing world). Add to that lack of front suspension and brakes. So, upgrades to make the chassis safe at the higher speeds would be necessary. More bucks!!! (Some parents are concerned about the speed as it is!) Sure, some tracks run restrictor plates and/ or have gear rules. Still, parental concerns will far outweigh the benefits of a hopped up Bando Car. Your putting the Bando car in a class that would price itself right out of the market. Besides; Kids grow up and will no longer fit in the small confines of the Bando Car.

I'm still going to say that " it would be fun to see a true "Outlaw" class!" I just don't see it as a happening thing. There are plent of 4 cylinder classes, that use stock componets, if one were worried about moving to a Legends Car. My Modified was a scream!!!! Only at $10,000 per engine it got a bit pricey. lol! Priced me right out of racing mods! Bandos, Legends, 4 cylinder, "Street Stock" or "Pure Stock" (as they are called in some areas) are by far cheaper. If one was that worried about costs, you could run the family sedan in SCCA solo (auto cross) events. They even have classifications for modifications to the family car.  ;) ;D ;D  We have one kid that runs a racing go kart.

An "Outlaw" Bando".... Just don't see it!!!

Any competitive Street Stock, at least around here, is going to cost you more than a Legend

I have raced different cars from street stock to ump modified both on dirt and pavement for almost 50 yrs.  Cost has always been a factor. Moving to another type of car is starting all over ,a completly different car, engine ,chassie ,tires wheels the works.  Starting over with a new and different system.  Even the tools needed are different.  The price of the car is not the most expensive item. This is why I say an up graded version with options could be faised in over a 2 or 3 yr period may be an answer to help keep racers in the sport.  Tim Worthy

That is correct.  The hp output of a bando engine from INEX will vary as much as 3 to 5 hp. thats great if you are on the higher end of hp range, not so good if on lower end.   That why you have racers hiring SPECIALIST to over see their engine build. In order to get it right.  Ask around you can find the names and ph number of people who will check your engine and return it to INEX to get the most hp from your engine, this is nothing new!  As for as increasing hp in Briggs v-twin there are many mods to do so.  Here are some suggestions to up grade the OUTLAW class in order to keep drivers and teams in the sport longer #1  front suspension and brakes(all bolt on ) #2 After market air Filter #3  roller rockers #4 Billet flywheels #5 Billet rods #6 better cam shaft #7  219 or #40 chain#8(tires) change to slicks  #9 remove seal on shroud #10 Heavier Clutch.#11  larger diameter headers.   I'm sure there are more improvments but these could be a start.  Maybe this would allow a driver up to age 16 to compete without having to change to a different type of car.  This would also seperate the Bandits and Outlaw classes.  The changes listed IS FOR OUTLAW CLASS ONLY  This is my  opinion and seggestions only.
