Barnet preasure plate?
« on: May 04, 2015, 12:19:51 pm »
Hey Guys,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my clutch in the legend car. I've got a blown motor in the garage and decided to pull the clutch cover and see what I'm up against first. I found that this motor appears to have a Barnet pressure plate or some version of it. See the attached picture. The motor I am running now has the stock Yamaha bike setup.

I've spoken to some about this, some people don't like the unit, some do. What are the advantages and disadvantages to running this? I run a mix of asphalt road course and oval races with this car.

Thanks,

Eric

I only run the coil spring set up like you have shown. I feel it has a more positive engagement, and have not had to change friction plates in the clutch since switching to that style about 5 years ago

Thanks. This particular unit has red springs. Is that the preferred spring to use? I assume there is a torque spec on these. Any Idea what that is?

I've never seen red springs, just gold and black. Torque specs are the same as the factory diaphram set-up

6 ft pounds seems right. I'll have to check the manual to be sure when I am around it

Thank you Jim and Steve.

Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

Jim mentioned the gold and blak springs. Barnet website mentions an optional heavy duty spring. Perhaps the red spring?

I bought a set of the heavy duty spring and they weren't red. I'm thinking they were black.

I was just guessing Robert. Other sources for springs. Perhaps a different manufacturer???

we run both set ups i  like the Barnett one .. we run 2 diaphrams in the other....
eric runs both roead course and ovals.. I think the Barnett set up would be better.

Hmm..

This motor and clutch assy was in the car when I bought it. The motor went south the first race I ran it, I was new to legends but I guess the clutch worked ok?

I'm wondering if the previous engine builder had his hand in putting in these springs. Not knowing anything about them I'm a little weary about putting this unit in my motor. I dunno...

Do whatever makes you most comfortable, though I highly doubt that the clutch springs caused your engine failure.
I can sell you the Barnett springs if you would like
