Tire rack in trailer
« on: November 05, 2010, 06:13:29 pm »
I want to put two 4 foot tire racks in my trailer, the type that hang on the wall, but the tire and rim combo for these cars are heavy. just looking to see how you guys did it, if you just screwed it to the up right or did you nut and bolt it though to the out side. I just don`t want to open my trailer up and find 8 tires laying on my car.
Thanks

Hey Vince, don't worry about finding them on your car, they'll just get stolen

Vince,

Personally, I would bolt the racks through the uprights and use large washers.
My .02 since nobody has answered your question.

That`s what i was thinking, they have what they call step bolts. it looks like a carriage bolt but it has a flatter head.

My GPS has a security feature built right in Jim.
It just falls off the windshield every 15 minutes so it cant be seen.
Perhaps I should clean the winshield?

Vince,

The head size looks large enough on those step bolts.  Make sure the diameter of the bolt is of sufficient size for the weight. And, perhaps use 3 or 4 per side of your rack. Use large washers under the nut also to help with the clamping force.

Here is a simple tire rack we sell.  They attached with 5   #14 self drilling screws per bracket (screws included).  The brackets must be installed into the wall studs.

They can be found at: http://bandostuff.com

Looks nice, my concern is that with 8 tires and self taping screws that it might pull out of the wall.

Paint 'Hot Lap' on your tires.... insert into plastic garbage bag and throw them in th eback of the truck. The tire rack will hold all day with the screws empty...
Oops did I say Hot Lap ??

My fingers are crossed at all times but to my knowledge  none of  the screws have pulled out yet .  I defiantly would not want to take the trailer off-roading though!  We have sold about 200 of these racks to Legends racers and ATV guys.
