The bolts for an 1100 engine case take a different size bolt.

Maybe one the guys that tinker with the 1100.1200 will chime in. My experience has been that the 1100 cases used a smaller diameter and possibly shorter. I thought the 1200 cases were the same.

Ya I didn't want to go down that road. It would be a trip to drill and tap in that location. Thanks for the replies so far. Would like to hear from anyone that has had this issue themselves.

Jim,
Because of the restraints on the program for the site, you or Joe may need to send as an email to get a size that anyone can actually see.
SORRY FOLKS!

Joe,
If you could email that to me, I will add it to my files and pass along to anyone that requests.

An experienced racer told me once that it was a good idea to drill and tap the block. I wish I remembered the size of the tap, I have it at home so Ill have to check back in. Anyway, the tap wasnt much bigger than what the 1200's used. He drilled and tapped the motor so its threaded all the way through both halves  of the block to the bottom side of the motor. He then bought longer bolts so it threads all the way down through. I bought a motor off him that had this done. I also have an 1100 motor that I partialy did this too.. The bolts dont go through both halves but they are much longer then what many use.   Even though I check em every week, this still helps reduce the chance of them backing out.

If you do this, buy and extra long drill bit. When tapping the block I was able to use a ratchet and extention for clearance, just be extremly carful, little turns at a time, you dont want to mess this up.

Thank You for the email Joe!
I now have the page from the Haynes manual that Joe was referring to.
If anyone needs it, message me and I will email it to you.

Sorry, I am late to the party on this one...

No, you can use the 8mm bolts, just make sure they are grade 8.8 or higher and you will not have any trouble. We do this all the time in the Legends cars we road race.
