What is the proper procedure for priming oil after a change?

Assuming that you don't drain the cooler, just fill the filter with fresh oil, fill the crankcase, and hit the starter button a few times.
If you drain the cooler, then its more of a process, at least with me

Thanks. I was told to take something loose at the back of the head and turn engine over until oil came out. As you can tell, I was not real clear on it.

We "burp" our motors by first taking the return line from oil cooler loose and turning the motor over, switch off, until oil comes to the top of the cooler. then we take the front valve cover bolt out on the exhaust side and again turn the motor ove un til we can see oil pumping up.

When I drain or change out the cooler thats the process I pretty much go with but never have with just an oil and filter change. Its sure not going to hurt anything to go more in depth, I'm just lazy.

Biggest thing to remember is to fill the oil filter with as much oil as possible to assist with priming the system.  Of course, this only applies if you have a vertically mounted remote oil filter.  If  you have a Texas style spin on or other horizontally mounted oil filter, I would highly recommend at least removing rear exhaust side valve cover bolt as previously mentioned and spinning engine over until oil comes out to relieve air from system.
Jim, if you recall, one of our fellow racers blew the side out of his engine because he was in a hurry and forgot to prime his remotely mounted oil filter before he came to the track.   An expensive lesson we all would like to avoid... ;D
