Integrity & Protesting
« on: April 17, 2012, 05:03:16 pm »
This is something I have been thinking about for awhile now and I was wondering what other people thought. Over the past few years I have noticed several things on and off the track, do you think the integrity of people in this division is going down hill or just the actions of people? The 2nd thing is if you had a feeling that someone was cheating or wanted to protest someone would you feel bad about doing so or worried about repercussion?

In the 5 years I've been involved in Legends, I have never seen anyone protest another driver/car here.
I would have no problem protesting someone if I knew for a fact that they were cheating.

That's why I am curious, In my area there are some people who others believe are cheating. They talk about it but never do anything about it, most of them are worried about having the person protest them back out of spite. I was never 100% on if someone was or not so I never have but if I felt 100% someone is cheating I would have no problem filing a protest. This is why I was pondering about the integrity of people lately, like if you protest or get protested don't take it personal. If you are declared Legal then you get the money and move on with a smile, if you don't then man up and admit you were thinking in the gray area and got caught.

There is tech at every track we go to but some do more than others. Mostly every track does ride heights, wheel base, scales, etc. Other tracks have done things such as fuel, compression, wiring, gears, axles, shocks, and wiring. Even though they do these things tracks are afraid to dq someone and lose them the next week in the pits because they will be mad. In my opinion rules are rules, if you are under weight or to low in height well take the hit and move on. Sometimes mistakes happen.

My opinion,

Some stuff is always going to get by tech. Some tech inspectors are better trained and know what to look at a bit closer. Some tracks allow things to slide to keep up car count. IF you truly believe someone is INTENTIONALLY cheating, and TRULY wish to stop it, throw up the money and protest. At best - You will be proven right and may benefit by moving up in ranking. At worst - You may have to eat a bit of crow, lose some money, and apologize for your suspicions. IT TRULY IS AN INTEGRITY ISSUE. Depends on how strongly one feels about the suspected infraction. Carefully think things through;  If you are NOT willing to go through the same scrutiny, then maybe the protest is not in your best interest.

My .02  for what it's worth.

In the end, the world is fuzzy and gray not black and white.  Sometimes, even when you are right, you may end up being the bad guy.  Choose your battles wisely.

hell fill out the card, put up the money and file the protest, you and half the other racers will have the answers you are looking for. Now if it is for other reasons or a personal issue, find something else to do. Dont be afraid, file it!
