Old style carbs.
« on: March 18, 2016, 04:44:06 pm »
Hey guys.

Some time ago I purchased a used 1200 bike motor that had this set of carbs with it. As you can tell in the picture this style of carbs has a double gas line input. I am told this is an older gravity fed style carburetor (see pic) vrs the single fuel line input model that is commonly used in these cars. Id like to send these off to HSR for a rebuild and jet kit. Ive pulled the bowls off to find they are useable, no corrosion.

In speaking to Hank he says that these carbs aren't legal in legend cars however a friend and veteran racer says they are fine to use. I've since called and emailed tech director Scot Reinhardt with this picture to see if they are or aren't and if not why. I cant find anything in the rulebook that relates to this. The only issue that I can tell is the fuel line may run fairly close to air filters. While I'm waiting for a reply I figured Id leave a post here to see what you all think.

    Anyone have an input?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

I believe Randy at RPM has the parts to convert it to a single inlet

No, the gravity carbs cannot be easily converted to single inlet fuel pump. The two middle carbs bodies are not machined for the center fuel tee.

Also, if those are flat bottom slide carbs they will not work for the race car anyhow.

If remove the paper from the throats and I can see the slide.

I received a response back from Mr. Reinhardt this morning. Apparently they are legal to use. Its just a matter of if they will work.

Mr. Williams,

If the only difference is the dual inlet, they are OK to use.
We have had some competitors use these in the past.
