Oil lines and fittings
« on: January 18, 2014, 09:09:56 am »
Can anyone provide me with the brand  of oil hose and fitting you are using needing to replace mine and no markings are available. Looked at a few different brands and it appears that the max heat that I have found is around 250 degrees, any help is appreciated.

I switched my car over to the Aeroquip Starlite at the end of the season, but that's very pricey (but 45% lighter than SS) and you don't want to put the ends on yourself, need to be crimped on. Temp range listed at -45 to 300
Otherwise I have always used standard Aeroquip SS. Temp range is listed at -55 to 300.
Aeroquip also offers the TFE line of SS hose, which is temp rage listed at -100 to 450.

I have all the above if your local speed shop doesn't carry what you need.

We have used nylon , kevlar, poly, etc. lightweight type hose for a few years on multiple cars. The Summit brand is your most economical way to go with the summit brand hose ends. The are a two piece thread lock fitting you can install yourself. We have installed these on multiple cars with zero issues. The one brand to avoid is the Mr.Gasket ends, they are discontinuing them so you will see good deals, they will cut through your hose in time. Many of the hoses are rated between 250 and 300, we have no problem. We do have pretty good cooling with the three port filters and fluidyne coolers. I have used this style hose/ ends on atleast 15 cars with no issues. These ends are two piece and alot easier to install than the older type pushlock fittings that were barbed and impossible to get on. The hose is basically the same as mentioned in the previous post, several manufacturers make this style hose and ends. I suggest the Summit brand for price. The out braid material would be by preference and could effect the choice you make and the pricing. Summit has a nice online selection to look at and compare. The crimp style as mentioned are nice, my problem is I want to be able to replace a hose at the track, any length or end configuration I need. We had had very little problem with the two piece thread lock style. My opinion.

We have used the Summit blue hose and push-lock fittings for years with no issues. Good product and price. It is nice to be able to make a hose at the track for yourself or a fellow racer. I carry extra in the trailer for emergencies.

I use the push lock, I heat the hose up some and it allows you to push the hose a lot easier. The heat allows the hose to expand a little, then when it cools it shrinks down around the fitting. I also use a hose clamp for extra safety. I have seen both types fail in the 2 years we have been racing Legends.

Keep in mind, there is push lock with the rubber hose and one piece fittings. Then there is the lightweight style line with two piece thread lock fittings. USLC sells all new cars with the rubber hose and one piece fittings. This hose works fine except it is stiff, heavy and not real flexible. The Lightweight rubber inner with nylon type outer braid is lighter and a lot more flexible. We use the lightweight hose as it does cost a little more but is a nicer system.
