wire questions
« on: January 14, 2014, 04:17:07 pm »
I'm getting ready to wire up my car from scratch. Besides the battery cables and the starter wires is it typical to use 14ga for everything else or ???? And am I correct that the fuse shown on the wire diagram from the alternator is 20 amp ????

14 gauge wire is rated at a 15 amp max. rating. I would use a 12 gauge wire for the main power wire to the dash area, everything else can easily be 14 gauge wire. (except the starter wire, it needs to be heavier but you have addressed that)

I would fuse the main wire to the dash at 15 to 18 amps. The alt wire can be 14 gauge.

Internal vacuum or external? Does it have a separate vacuum module, or is there a hose barb coming out of the box?

Separate vacume...   I have the exact set-up as the diagram on the loosenuts site. It just doesn't say what coil is to what plugs.

If you don't have an answer by tomorrow morning, I'll climb through the snowdrifts to get to my car/trailer

I'm not in a big hurry... no need to bust through drifts on my account..  I'm sure its as nasty ur way as it is here in MI.  I'm all wired up but just want to have my plug wires to the right plugs the first try when I fire it up from a long hibernation.

Going from the wiring diagram you are using, the coil pictured higher up (Grey from coil to black to box) is for cylinders 2&3
The lower pictured coil, with orange from coil to yellow to box, is for cylinders 1&4.

If my highly evolved technical writing   ::)   doesn't make sense, let me know
