When I bought my car it had a fresh, not even broke in 1200 in it built by a 600 dealer. I was told by the builder to break it in with conventional because it will allow the wear necessary for break-in, but to switch to synthetic for racing. I didnt right away because of the cost factor, but after smelling how burnt the oil was after one night, and talking to everyone else at the track, thats when I took the advice of the builder and switched to synthetic.
