Title: Stiffen RF spring vs. Softening rest of car....
Post by: slack11 on July 06, 2011, 11:11:43 pm
last week the car was loose entering the corner, and I was going to stiffen the RF spring.  I have also been toying with the idea of softening the whole car, so my question is...
If I need to tighten the car on entry by stiffening the RF spring, would softening the rest of the car have the same affect?  I know the answer is most likely try it and see, but was wondering if others have done this.

Try it and see  ;D

It really depends on your set-up and weight distribution numbers as to what you should do. Also how you drive.
Me personally, hate a loose car. I'm running 51.5% cross and it's too loose for my driving taste.
If you want to PM or email me your numbers, I can help you work something out with some different options you can try

Hi Nate,

As I recall, you race pavement. Is your issue just loose condition on turn entry?
Perhaps too much rear brake bias if the condition occurs only on turn entry braking. Could be a stagger issue also (too much stagger).
You might go back through any notes and set ups that Dave gave you and see if you are off somewhere.

To answer your question,  stiffening the right front will help a your issue, i would not run more than a 50lb split in those front springs on asphalt. If you exceed 50lbs. it creates an issue under breaking that will upset the car to much on entry.

I take it that 51% cross is on the dirt, lol.  If these asphalt guys would run 51% i could sell alot of right front fenders and suspension parts, LOL. I would like to run dirt sometime on a practice day, it looks fun.

Actually, after the top 5 last week, I scaled the car and I'm at 54.9% cross with me in it.
Yikes...don't tell Gimpster!

Forward bite is the thing I was lacking last week.
Adding 54lbs of lead in the ass end tonight.
I am soooo not textbook  ::)

I told Wanda that we are going to paint the Legend aluminumn silver. Get rid of the pink so it goes into the corner better.
The aluminum should make it accellerate faster down the straights too... (sigh)

LMAO! OK... Will give you aluminum is slick. But I will attribute faster to pink because it is for a very good cause.  ;)

I've done everything by the book for too long.
Guess I just can't drive as good as everyone else.
The more bent up my chassis gets, and the more "incorrect" things I do, the better it gets.
Laugh all you want boys  ;)

Whatever works sometimes is the best. Not everything works the same for everyone. The books are more guidelines than gospel,

Yeah Steve, not everything I tell people will work on their chassis because I pre-bend my chassis the way I want it.

Mine get bent the way Vern wants it, and Brandon, and Dan, etc...
I make due with what I have, or I would have had to clip it 7 times last year alone.
The more messed up she is, the better it gets.
(Insert drunk lonely stripper with daddy issues reference here)
I'll never be able to sell it like this, but it's working for me!
Hell, y'all should see Brians car! (TeamZero)

That explains your cross weight numbers... I was going to nickname you "catfish" because to run a dryslick track on the bottomI have come home and scaled the chassis, found it was at 52 percent from bottom dwelling that night... figured with those cross numbers  that you was bottom dwelling

I wish I was a bottom feeder. Car likes to be mid to middle high through the turns. Tracks been dry slick or dusty lately with grip only on the bottom.
Added a 3 blocks of lead tonight, and made a "few" adjustments...I feel good about this weekend...guess we'll see!

You can call me anything you want Gimpster, I'm not that way, as long as you can take it in return!  ;D

I run a 20 lb weight under the left running board, one on the flat upright bar above the rear left axle and two 20 pound weights on the lower frame rail bolted just before the frame angles up to the rear bumper horn on the left rear and still I barely make weight
