Title: Clutch slave question...
Post by: slack11 on March 24, 2012, 11:01:13 pm
Need some help...

Putting in a a new motor tomorrow, this one doesn't have the clutch slave on it, just the rod Sitting in the block.   When putting on the new clutch slave, does this rod just slide in and out within that space?  I pulled the rod back and forth, and doesn't seem to engage on anything, is this right, does it just slide in and out there?

Thought i'd ask before putting the motor in and guessing that his is right.  Be easier to fix it with the motor out than in if I have to.

Thanks for any help

The slave brackets on some motors are diff. and the push rod will be a longer.  So  If you are putting the slave and bracket from the old motor..PUT THE PUSH ROD FROM THE OLD MOTOR IN TOO..I had to change the push rod once with the motor in the car..sux.  The Slave, Bracket AND push rod as one unit!!!  1250 were diff. but things get mixed around

Yep thats right, if you are putting in a newer engine you will have to use your older rod, the same thing happened to me too. got and new engine with a rod in it, put on the slave cylinder and when we started the car and tried to put it in gear it wouldn't go, had to use the old rod, then it was all good after that.

Where can i get the short braided line that threads into the clutch slave cylinder? I realize there is a long steel line from the clutch reservoir however i need the one that threads into the slave cylinder.
Thanks

Are those  little brass washers to seal the line to the cylinder a standard off the shelf part that I can pick up somewhere, or do I need to order them special....  One of them is stuck on the old cylinder, and I need to get a new one...  Just a 2 cent part, but it is all I need to finish the car up.
