Who runs at the Springfield Raceway and what gear do you run? Thinking about going there for nationals this year and want to make sure I have the right gear.
Thanks,
Grant
-
You don't want to go Grant...do you have to win everything this year????
-
2.90 in 2nd should be good ;D
-
3:90 or 4:10
Check the stickie at the top of this section. Gerad has a nice list that you can download.

Shhhhh, he doesnt need any help :-X ;)
-
Um, maybe Jim is right... Use the 2:90! ;D
-
While your at it, leave all your spare gears at the shop, and make it a 2.90 open... trust me, it really works at that track ;)
-
LOL .... well thanks for the input ... i guess! Jim, you are always full of "useful" information
-
I would have helped more if you wouldn't have put that rock on my freshly waxed hood Saturday ;D

-
Yup ... So lets hope that that never happens!

Maybe at Chiton next year :-X
-
chilton!?

I've heard "reliable rumors" of a private promotor talking with the Fair Board.
That was the PERFECT Legends track, would be awesome to have it back on the schedule. I bet Springfield is very similiar, thats why Im not too worried about gear, I ran a 3.58 in 3rd at Chilton and did pretty well
-
I would not try a 3.58 in 3rd at Springfield. I tried a 3.42 in 3rd last year and was on the rev limiter. 3.30 in 3rd is what I am going to try if I get a chance to get down there for a race this season. It sort of falls in the middle between 3.90 and 4.10 (4th gear) ratios. Springfield is pretty fast for a dirt 1/4 mile. Hope the twins do not decide to arrive early so that I can run the nationals race.
-
and a 3.33 in 3rd looks decent too. At least i have a 3.33 gear in the shop
-
Thier is no way a 4.10 will be a good idea there, 3.90 is questionable. That place is really big and fast for a 1/4 mile. If I were going I would start with a 3.73.
-
Jeff, I agree it looks big for a 3.90. It looks alot like a track back east that we run a 3.73 at. I will carry all of my gears out there but plan on having a 3.90 under it when get there.

Scott what track are you comparren it too ?
-
It looks a lot like Trailway's to me. Bigger corners but the overall size looks about the same. I run a 3.73 there and I think everyone does too.

With the gears for Springfield, I am just passing along what I have been told and what I have seen from racing out there a few times.
-
I'm sure everyone appreciates your information, I know I do as I've never been there.
I'm just thinking out loud to try to not have to buy a gearset I'll never use again!
-
Yea I'm with Jim. I appreciate the advice but I think we are all just thinking outloud. Ihate it when my inside voice gets out.................. ;D
Thanks

Jim,
When you are talking about a 3.58 in 3rd, are you saying 3rd as in the gears back from neutral, or 3rd as in total gears including the low gear in front of neutral. Want to make sure that we are talking the same lanuage. The cyclinder numbers being reverse in these cars from the motorcycle use has already screwed me up. :)
-
Total gears, so second back from Neutral.
Thats what I ran at Chilton in WI (3.58 in 3rd) and never hit the chip. That was a small 1/4 mile though, just measured it a couple weeks ago, is 1/4 mile about2 feet from the top of the top groove
-
I ran a 3.90 at Chilton and turned around 10,100 rpm. Chilton looks like it would fit inside Springfield which is why I am thinking 3.73. I remember asimilar coversation with people when wewent to big Diamond, some said 3.73, some said 3.90. I watched videos, looked at laptimes and went with a 3.58. Gear was perfect, my buddy went with a 3.73 and he had to change right away and lost practice time.
Not to be disrespectful to anyone but slower cars/drivers can get away with a higher gear ratio.
