Hi All,
What does everyone do to lock the steering rack so you can set toe , caster and camber??
I haven't seen anything for sale.
thanks

We take string and attach to bungy cord from front bumper to rear bumper both sides and adjust steering wheel to straight on one side and set toe on other sideif u buy bungy with holes already in then u cut both. Sides of bungy and attach string to holes leave metal clip on to attach to bumpers

As I have not seen anything in the rules, or heard anyone discuss this situation before; Can you not do the same as the Kart folks and use a steering lock?
Anyone in the know about this?
Seems to me that bungee cords would stretch and not give a very accurate measurement.

just set it on the ground and set the toe. I always roll it back and forth and re check though.

When did you get into Bandos Scott?

You have to lock the steering, or the wheel will rotate when setting the toe.. I've found the string technique to be very inaccurate so I went to one of the lasers..I just haven't seen a steering lock available... Might have to attach a pin lock to the column.

Darin,
A pin lock is what is used on a lot of the karts.
Still curious if this is a legal addition to the Bando cars?

2 vice grips on the steering shaft behind the heim joint at the steering wheel.

Cheap and easy solution.
Thanks Mike!

The only time I have seen the string not be accurate was if we had too much body or bumper damage so the strings wouldn't run straight down the sides, but in those cases we were just tying to get it close enough to salvage some seat time for the feature so we weren't too worried about it.
I guess I am not really understanding the challenge you are having though because I have never had the wheel turn while the car is sitting on the ground still and I am trying to set the tow.

It might not move with the steering rack. I am more familiar with the simpler steering in a kart. After you would get the right side perfectly straight, you would start to set your 1/8 left side lead. It would pull the right side out of straight without the lock. Also, once you use a laser you will be amazed how inaccurate a string can be...you can get things close, but be scrubbing speed with toe issues. Really saw this in asphalt karts where big MO was so important.

My Bad, I never do look at the title.... :-[.

Another option is the lazer alignment from proline / millenium karts.
When scaling your bando you can check the toe and camber with the tool.
