Title: 1200 vrs 1250 hp
Post by: Legends16 on September 23, 2014, 11:33:57 am
   Hey guys,

I've been running legends now for almost 3 years no on an limited schedule of about 10 races a year. Having blown one motor, and having the head gasket go on the other, I got a stock 1200 bike motor in the car to get me some seat time. I'm continuing to improve, getting the setup better to my liking. I'm running asphalt ovals anywhere from mid pack to the back third of the field. Ive a some top tens running decent and keeping my nose clean.

I find my biggest weakness is starts and restarts due to the lack of power over the other guys. Its a bit of a struggle, my margin for error is a lot tighter then others. It would seem the larger the track the bigger the disadvantage.

This leads me to my question. How much hp and torque am I loosing to the rest of the field? Most guys are running 1250's. If I had to guess its about 20+ hp, as far as torque I haven't a clue. Funds are tight and hopefully I can get my Hank Scott 1200 in for a rebuild over the offseason.

Thanks,

Eric

Thanks Steve, Ive actually read many of those posts, interesting enough.

What Im really trying to find out is the power difference (torque and hp) between a stock 1200 bike motor to say a built 1200 or 1250. Unless I missed something, I didn't see what I was looking for in there. Thank you for your input though. :)

Keep working on set-up, rotating weight, drag reduction, driving style, etc.
Seat time is king, keep getting as much as you can.

A stock bike motor, according to Yamaha in 1992, put out 130HP @ 9000 RPM.
Per USLC's website, the sealed 1250 has 132HP (http://www.uslegendcars.com/cars/legend/ (http://www.uslegendcars.com/cars/legend/))
The top HP on the dyno pulls at Knoxville last month from a sealed motor was 125 HP
Hank Scott claims 151HP on their built 1200's.

A member on this forum, and previous track champion, has won multiple features with a stock 1200 out of a bike...that was on dirt though
