Title: Yamaha XS 1100 engine
Post by: Legends16 on March 26, 2013, 04:08:38 pm
Hey guys,

I have access to a to one of these with really low miles. Is this usable in a legend car? Is it the same block as the 1200? Or is this entirely different?

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

Sorry, Not legal.
As Brad pointed out, it is a different animal. It is also a shaft drive engine.
In theory, this sounds like an interesting idea. Engine could mount in it's original forward facing position. Transmission is a seperate gearbox.
Unfortunately; then you would have to shift the drivers position to the right, and reconfigure the rear end.

I have seen these engines used on offroad buggies with varying success. The problem seems to be in the driveshaft length and alignment.
I had the same idea for my dwarf car project until Rhonda put her foot down and said no way!!!!

I ride a '81 Yamaha XS 1100. Big old HEAVY cruiser!!! Love the old beast; But it weighs right around 1150+ pounds wet and trimmed out.
Lots of torque, low to midrange. Takes a little room to make top speed. Have had mine over 100 mph on the highway.
Has been very reliable; But it doesn't get as much abuse as it would in a race car.

And I got so excited today when my friend asked if I knew anyone looking for an xs 1100 motorcycle. I had thought it may have been the same as an fj. Old motorcycle with low miles sitting in a barn, I thought I may have a steal.

Oh well, thanks for the help guys.

Eric

PS, YIKES Steve, that's a big bike, about 3 times heavy as my Buell.  ;D

They are VERY HEAVY bikes.
ANYTHING newer weighs less. lol!
Comfortable though.

I had a front brake caliper freeze up on me a couple years ago (Thank God it was at a very slow speed!). Had to have help to get the bike back upright.  :-[
