On the 1200 there is a blanked off port at the bottom in the front off the motor most folk connect a top oil system to I think, can you connect a oil temp gauge here?

Personally I wouldn't as ther is pressure there.
Are you not running a top end oiler? That is NOT a good idea

No, I think there are 2 or 3 cars here with them on that's all, is it just to keep them cooler? The air temp here doesn't get as warm as it does in the states, is it much hassle to fit one?

Lubrication purposes.
I would never run my cars without one, I've seen the wear/damage that can cause.
You can buy my brand, or anyone elses, but I would definately use one.
Easy to install. Most kits come with the adapter for the case (mine does), all you have to do is drill and tap the head and you can install it.

The best place to tap into the engine for an oil pressure gauge is from your remote filter adapter housing. You can remove the housing by disconnecting the two oil lines, then loosening the center fitting which tightens the adapter to the engine. Spin the adapter off and the tap a fitting into there. Re-install the housing and hook up all your lines. Go with a mechanical gauge as well, the electrical gauges go bad all the time due to vibrations screwing up the sending unit. Another place I have seen the gauge hooked up to is using a t-fitting at where the top end oil lines go from the head to the case of the engine.
