General / Just bought a legend? Have some questions
« Last post by Ck_32 on February 05, 2024, 04:28:14 pm »
So i just bought legend last week for a back up fun Autocross ?kart?.

Per the seller:
2020 chassis
FZ09
30-35 races on motor
Wilwood brake upgrade
Upgraded Heim?s
Bearing Spacers
CMG housing (not sure what that is)
Billstein with the availability to upgrade to afco

I looked over the car, from my limited knowledge with these. It looked good from a general mechanical and car perspective. The frame and sub frames looked straight, suspension looked good and straight.

What other things should I ask them before deliver or look at?

- How can you tell if the wheels are lightweight or not?
- For non competitive Autocross how many weekend sessions can this motor actually run before a rebuild? Does it ever need one if it?s not to be competitive?
- Can I run 93 Oct pump gas?
- What final gear would be good for autox?
- How can you verify what year chassis?
- Can you add a MT09 quick shifter to the FZ09 easily?
- What upgrades should I do to make it more suited for auto cross since spec rules don?t matter?
- How easy is it to repair body cracks?

What should I ask him about?
What should I do when I take delivery next week?

As usual, kind of a last minute rule. AND, only $619.99 plus brake pads.

Well, after several years of being kicked around, rear disc brakes for Legends Cars are finally a real thing.

Yes, it is an asphalt thing. Not needed for dirt.

I've seen an oil cooler air scoop on various sites for sale. Is this more of a asphalt thing? Would it just scoop up dirt and mud and cause more problems running on dirt tracks?

Thank you very much Randy for the insight! I will see what I find and get back to you. It's definitely split bad I just have to pinpoint the exact area the oil is coming from.
Thanks,
Josh

Support the engine with a floor jack. Remove the bolts and the mount. Have a look down the hole to see if you can see any other cracks inside the bolt hole in the threaded area.

I have never come across an engine with both sides broken like that. There is no pressurized oil there, but there is a ton of oil sling from the rotating transmission.

Without slitting the cases, the only possible way I can see of trying to stop the oil is to try silicone. But that could be problematic if the case is cracked internally and the silicone hydraulics when installing the bolts.

You can remove the bottom half of the case without disassembling the complete engine. You would be able to get the crack(s) welded then and that will resolve the leak completely. If you do pull the bottom end off, you'll need a couple of gaskets and o-rings.

Let us know if we can be of any assistance.
