Help....... I put that new oil adaptor on my motor last year, the one that goes on the back of the motor, my engine builder told me that I am using the wroung filter ???? the one I have from napa is slightly to small ? what are you running ???? thanks vern

I run a NAPA 1069 or a wix 51069R

If you are talking about the "Texas Style" adapter that mounts a spin on directly to the back of the motor be careful here! Last weekend I blew a NAPA 1069 off the adapter.
When I got the car a Fram PH30 was installed. The PH30 crosses to a 1069 NAPA, seemed like a no brainer. Then after the 5th time I changed the oil the filter blew off, it definitely was not loose, the threads were not engaged deep enough and pulled.
After some research I found the adapter to be a 20mm X 1.5 thread which is slightly smaller than the 13/16" thread of the PH30 (1069).
The 20mm filters are:
Small Size:
STP S2903
Fram Ph3593A
Normal Size:
Fram PH3985
Wix 51626
NAPA 1626

are the normal sizes the ones that dont fit ??

To add to Bando, the Napa version of the STP S2903 (which I couldn't find), is a 7046. I also run a taller one but I will have to look at the number when I get home, but it is also that same metric thread.

DO NOT USE THE NAPA 1069 or Fram PH 30!!!!!
It has a 13/16 thread that is to large!
-
Depending on who made it determines what filter you should be using. I make my with the same thread as the bolt holding it onto the engine. It is 20 x 1.50mm threads. I believe the ones from 600 racing are the same thread as well.
The 13/16 threaded filter like the 51069 will thread on, but do not engage the threads properly which results in two problems. 1) Improper torque/grip to keep the filter on, 2) oil will bypass the threads and allow unfiltered oil to enter the engine.
I recommend the WIX 51347 (short) or 51357 (long) for the 20 x 1.5 mm application.

Well i was running a WIX 51069 like usual tonight and after the 2nd lap of hot laps i saw the oil light come on and shut the engine off immediately. Came into the pits and the filter was loose, along with the gasket hanging out. I'm sure i had the filter tight like usual, so i guess it may be time for the filter switch..

Could have just been a fluke. WIX has always put out a good filter. Know lots of folks run them.
Look at other filters but don't give it up just because of one failure.
Head Up!

Yeah the filter didn't fail from what it looked like to me. It just backed itself off the threads and came loose. You will have to use one of those other part numbers with the metric threads.

I use the wix 51626 with the texas adapter....never had an issue with it
-
I know a couple of people that have an issue with the Wix filter with the Texas style. They switched to the K&N and haven't had a problem since. I still use the Wix 51515 and have never had a problem.

I think that the problem is with the thread style. The ones people keep listing have 13/16 thread and it should be a 20 x 1.5. The threads are so close but it will cause the filter to come loose.
