Title: Cross weight balance of a car
Post by: Ferrarist on August 12, 2017, 09:20:13 am
Hello.
Have a kind of unusual question about cross weight balance of a car.
Have access to a car weight scales, and read a lot about how to properly make it right.
But it will be a LOT easy for me if i remove all 4 tyres, and place the car on jack stands, which supports wheel hubs. All jack stands will be leveled between on the scales as well.
It will allow me great access to the coilover springs for adjustments.
Did i miss something and is there any downsides?
Thanks.

You definitely don't want to do it like that. You need to have all your wheels on and have your tire pressures set accurately as well. when you need to adjust the shock collar just jack the car up, make the change, and set it back down. also make sure your scales are level and your car is even on the scales.

Make sure when you let the car down you rock it a little to make sure the car has settled on the springs properly.

The downside is, the tires are also a form of a spring.

Since all of the tires are not run at the same air pressures you will have different readings between tires and solid jack stands.

I ensure I use straight wheels and the tires set to the race pressures for all set up.

Yes, it is difficult to reach the adjusters, but that is the best way to do it.
