Title: OK Engine Gurus...here ya go.
Post by: Dirt75 on June 10, 2015, 03:07:52 pm
Car starts and idles fine. After about 5 laps the engine starts missing and losing power. We changed the red box and went out for the feature. At almost the same laps during the race, same thing happened. The car has had 3 different red boxes with the same results. Going to try a new blue plate. Other suggestions have been a coil problem, or possibly a fuel pump. It seems to be once the car get hot it happems.  Anyone had anything similar? Was hoping for some good advice so I can quit throwing money at it and get to racing. Thanks

My guess would be coils, or plug wires, I seem to remember something similar happening to me early in my legends career and it ended up being a coil.

ive seen this in a near new car and ended up being fuel pump not pumping at full pressure and at race speed would last 5 to 6 laps and run out of fuel in carbs as pump couldn't keep up lose power and cut out but would start back up and run and idle fine in pits also check fuel flitter isn't blocked

First thing to always check is your grounds.

We had same issue for few races and turned out to be a faulty wire going into the blue plate plastic pickup. It would get hot then start to lose one coil. Replaced it and problem went away after we swapped every other part of ignition system and checking carbs and fuel pump too.

if you run a cover over the blue plate remove it and try without the cover..

I had the same during the winter while racing at atlanta motor speedway. Car ran great for the first few laps, then it started missing worse and worse as it got hotter and hotter. There was no air gap between the pick ups and button causing some damage to all components. Changed the blue plate ensuring there was correct air gap and no problems since.

Of course your problem may be different form the one I had but maybe you could use my list to find your problem through process of elimination until you figure out your problem
