I would do it in a heartbeat if my son was not.  I had to make a decision several years ago about us as a successful team.  If  I raced too, it spread me  between two karts on setup and I was worn out from my own racing.  Many times I was on the grid while he was racing, so I didn't get to watch.  That hurt because I couldn't see how he was handling, plus I really enjoy watching him race.  The money was also spread over two karts.   When my son turned 15, it was evident that he could whip me 9 times out of 10 given equal equipment.  So I retired from driving and focussed on being a car owner/crew chief.   If he gives it up, I will get back into it for sure.

My husband will be 61 next week, and is our driver.  Uh - that is if we ever get a motor past practice.  :o :D

I'm 56 and my son is just short of 30 and we have been sharing the driving duties in our car this year.  The only reason the kids are usually a bit faster is because us older guys see a wreck about to happen and dollar signs appear in front of our eyes.  The kids just see it as an opportunity to pass some more cars!!!!  (Dad will fix it if I bend it.....)  If you really love it I would say there is no disadvantage to age unless the old reflexes are gone.  Give it a shot, you may surprise yourself!!!!  ;D
